1 And Jonah prayed unto Jehovah his God out of the fish's belly;
{A Song of degrees.} Out of the depths do I call upon thee, Jehovah. Lord, hear my voice; let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication.
Behold, if he slay me, yet would I trust in him; but I will defend mine own ways before him.
And Jehovah brought upon them the captains of the host of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh with fetters, and bound him with chains of brass, and carried him to Babylon. And when he was in affliction, he besought Jehovah his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers, and prayed to him. And he was intreated of him and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that Jehovah, he was God.
And call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.
He shall call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honour him.
They have cut off my life in a pit, and cast a stone upon me. Waters streamed over my head; I said, I am cut off. I called upon thy name, Jehovah, out of the lowest pit. Thou hast heard my voice: hide not thine ear at my sighing, at my cry.
who, having received such a charge, cast them into the inner prison, and secured their feet to the stocks. And at midnight Paul and Silas, in praying, were praising God with singing, and the prisoners listened to them.
