¹ Moreover, brethren, we do you to wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia;

² How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.

³ For to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their power they were willing of themselves;

⁴ Praying us with much intreaty that we would receive the gift, and take upon us the fellowship of the ministering to the saints.

⁵ And this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God.

⁶ Insomuch that we desired Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also finish in you the same grace also.

⁷ Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also.

⁸ I speak not by commandment, but by occasion of the forwardness of others, and to prove the sincerity of your love.

⁹ For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.

¹⁰ And herein I give my advice: for this is expedient for you, who have begun before, not only to do, but also to be forward a year ago.

¹¹ Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which ye have.

¹² For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.

¹³ For I mean not that other men be eased, and ye burdened:

¹⁴ But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality:

¹⁵ As it is written, He that had gathered much had nothing over; and he that had gathered little had no lack.

¹⁶ But thanks be to God, which put the same earnest care into the heart of Titus for you.

¹⁷ For indeed he accepted the exhortation; but being more forward, of his own accord he went unto you.

¹⁸ And we have sent with him the brother, whose praise is in the gospel throughout all the churches;

¹⁹ And not that only, but who was also chosen of the churches to travel with us with this grace, which is administered by us to the glory of the same Lord, and declaration of your ready mind:

²⁰ Avoiding this, that no man should blame us in this abundance which is administered by us:

²¹ Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.

²² And we have sent with them our brother, whom we have oftentimes proved diligent in many things, but now much more diligent, upon the great confidence which I have in you.

²³ Whether any do enquire of Titus, he is my partner and fellowhelper concerning you: or our brethren be enquired of, they are the messengers of the churches, and the glory of Christ.

²⁴ Wherefore shew ye to them, and before the churches, the proof of your love, and of our boasting on your behalf.

¹³ For `I say' not `this' that others may be eased `and' ye distressed;

¹⁴ but by equality: your abundance `being a supply' at this present time for their want, that their abundance also may become `a supply' for your want; that there may be equality:

¹⁹ and not only so, but who was also appointed by the churches to travel with us in `the matter of' this grace, which is ministered by us to the glory of the Lord, and `to show' our readiness:

²⁰ Avoiding this, that any man should blame us in `the matter of' this bounty which is ministered by us:

²¹ for we take thought for things honorable, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.

²² and we have sent with them our brother, whom we have many times proved earnest in many things, but now much more earnest, by reason of the great confidence which `he hath' in you.

²³ Whether `any inquire' about Titus, `he is' my partner and `my' fellow-worker to you-ward, or our brethren, `they are' the messengers of the churches, `they are' the glory of Christ.

²⁴ Show ye therefore unto them in the face of the churches the proof of your love, and of our glorying on your behalf.

⁴ with much entreaty calling on us to receive the favour and the fellowship of the ministration to the saints,

⁵ and not according as we expected, but themselves they did give first to the Lord, and to us, through the will of God,

⁶ so that we exhorted Titus, that, according as he did begin before, so also he may finish to you also this favour,

⁷ but even as in every thing ye do abound, in faith, and word, and knowledge, and all diligence, and in your love to us, that also in this grace ye may abound;

⁸ not according to command do I speak, but because of the diligence of others, and of your love proving the genuineness,

⁹ for ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that because of you he became poor -- being rich, that ye by that poverty may become rich.

¹⁰ and an opinion in this do I give: for this to you `is' expedient, who not only to do, but also to will, did begin before -- a year ago,

¹¹ and now also finish doing `it', that even as `there is' the readiness of the will, so also the finishing, out of that which ye have,

¹² for if the willing mind is present, according to that which any one may have it is well-accepted, not according to that which he hath not;

¹³ for not that for others release, and ye pressured, `do I speak,'

¹⁴ but by equality, at the present time your abundance -- for their want, that also their abundance may be for your want, that there may be equality,

¹⁵ according as it hath been written, `He who `did gather' much, had nothing over; and he who `did gather' little, had no lack.'

¹⁶ And thanks to God, who is putting the same diligence for you in the heart of Titus,

¹⁷ because indeed the exhortation he accepted, and being more diligent, of his own accord he went forth unto you,

¹⁸ and we sent with him the brother, whose praise in the good news `is' through all the assemblies,

¹⁹ and not only so, but who was also appointed by vote by the assemblies, our fellow-traveller, with this favour that is ministered by us, unto the glory of the same Lord, and your willing mind;

²⁰ avoiding this, lest any one may blame us in this abundance that is ministered by us,

²¹ providing right things, not only before the Lord, but also before men;

²² and we sent with them our brother, whom we proved in many things many times being diligent, and now much more diligent, by the great confidence that is toward you,

²³ whether -- about Titus -- my partner and towards you fellow-worker, whether -- our brethren, apostles of assemblies -- glory of Christ;

²⁴ the shewing therefore of your love, and of our boasting on your behalf, to them shew ye, even in the face of the assemblies.

⁸ I do not speak as commanding [it], but through the zeal of others, and proving the genuineness of your love.

⁹ For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that for your sakes he, being rich, became poor, in order that *ye* by *his* poverty might be enriched.

¹⁰ And I give [my] opinion in this, for this is profitable for you who began before, not only to do, but also to be willing, a year ago.

¹¹ But now also complete the doing of it; so that as [there was] the readiness to be willing, so also to complete out of what ye have.

¹² For if the readiness be there, [a man is] accepted according to what he may have, not according to what he has not.

¹³ For [it is] not in order that there may be ease for others, and for you distress,

¹⁴ but [on the principle] of equality; in the present time your abundance for their lack, that their abundance may be for your lack, so that there should be equality.

¹⁵ According as it is written, He who [gathered] much had no excess, and he who [gathered] little was nothing short.

¹⁶ But thanks [be] to God, who gives the same diligent zeal for you in the heart of Titus.

¹⁷ For he received indeed the entreaty, but, being full of zeal, he went of his own accord to you;

¹⁸ but we have sent with him the brother whose praise [is] in the glad tidings through all the assemblies;

¹⁹ and not only [so], but [is] also chosen by the assemblies as our fellow-traveller with this grace, ministered by us to the glory of the Lord himself, and [a witness of] our readiness;

²⁰ avoiding this, that any one should blame us in this abundance [which is] administered by us;

²¹ for we provide for things honest, not only before [the] Lord, but also before men.

²² And we have sent with them our brother whom we have often proved to be of diligent zeal in many things, and now more diligently zealous through the great confidence [he has] as to you.

²³ Whether as regards Titus, [he is] my companion and fellow-labourer in your behalf; or our brethren, [they are] deputed messengers of assemblies, Christ's glory.

²⁴ Shew therefore to them, before the assemblies, the proof of your love, and of our boasting about you.

²¹ Having regard for honorable things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.

²² We have sent with them our brother, whom we have many times proved earnest in many things, but now much more earnest, by reason of the great confidence which he has in you.

²³ As for Titus, he is my partner and fellow worker for you. As for our brothers, they are the apostles of the assemblies, the glory of Christ.

²⁴ Therefore show the proof of your love to them in front of the assemblies, and of our boasting on your behalf.

¹ And now we give you news, brothers, about the grace of God which has been given to the churches of Macedonia;

² How while they were undergoing every sort of trouble, and were in the greatest need, they took all the greater joy in being able to give freely to the needs of others.

³ For I give them witness, that as they were able, and even more than they were able, they gave from the impulse of their hearts,

⁴ Seriously requesting us that they might have a part in this grace of being servants to the needs of the saints:

⁵ And going even farther than our hope, they first gave themselves to the Lord and to us after the purpose of God.

⁶ So that we made a request to Titus that, as he had made a start before, so he might make this grace complete in you.

⁷ And that as you are full of every good thing, of faith, of the word, of knowledge, of a ready mind, and of love to us, so you may be full of this grace in the same way.

⁸ I am not giving you an order, but using the ready mind of others as a test of the quality of your love.

⁹ For you see the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, how though he had wealth, he became poor on your account, so that through his need you might have wealth.

¹⁰ And in this I give my opinion: for it is to your profit, who were the first to make a start a year before, not only to do this, but to make clear that your minds were more than ready to do it.

¹¹ Then make the doing of it complete; so that as you had a ready mind, you may give effect to it as you are able.

¹² For if there is a ready mind, a man will have God's approval in the measure of what he has, and not of what he has not.

¹³ And I am not saying this so that others may get off free, while the weight comes on you:

¹⁴ But so that things may be equal; that from those things of which you have more than enough at the present time their need may be helped, and that if you are in any need they may be a help to you in the same way, making things equal.

¹⁵ As it says in the Writings, He who had taken up much had nothing over and he who had little had enough.

¹⁶ But praise be to God, who puts the same care for you into the heart of Titus.

¹⁷ For while he gladly gave ear to our request, he was interested enough to go to you from the impulse of his heart.

¹⁸ And with him we have sent a brother whose praise in the good news has gone through all the churches;

¹⁹ And not only so, but he was marked out by the churches to go with us in the grace of this giving which we have undertaken to the glory of the Lord and to make clear that our mind was ready:

²⁰ And so that no man might be able to say anything against us in the business of this giving which has been put into our hands:

²¹ For the business has been so ordered by us as to have the approval, not only of the Lord, but of men.

²² And we have sent with them our brother, whose ready spirit has been made clear to us at times and in ways without number, but it is now all the more so because of the certain faith which he has in you.

²³ If any question comes up about Titus, he is my brother-worker, working with me for you; or about the others, they are the representatives of the churches to the glory of Christ.

²⁴ Make clear then to them, as representatives of the churches, the quality of your love, and that the things which we have said about you are true.
