¹ And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south.

² And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.

³ And he went on his journeys from the south even to Bethel, unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Hai;

⁴ Unto the place of the altar, which he had make there at the first: and there Abram called on the name of the LORD.

⁵ And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents.

⁶ And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together.

⁷ And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram's cattle and the herdmen of Lot's cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land.

⁸ And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren.

⁹ Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.

¹⁰ And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.

¹¹ Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.

¹² Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom.

¹³ But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly.

¹⁴ And the LORD said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward:

¹⁵ For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.

¹⁶ And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.

¹⁷ Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee.

¹⁸ Then Abram removed his tent, and came and dwelt in the plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and built there an altar unto the LORD.

⁵ And Lot ^H3876 also, which went ^H1980 with ^H854 Abram, ^H87 had flocks, ^H6629 and herds, ^H1241 and tents. ^H168

⁶ And the land ^H776 was not able to bear ^H5375 them, that they might dwell ^H3427 together: ^H3162 for their substance ^H7399 was great, ^H7227 so that they could ^H3201 not dwell ^H3427 together. ^H3162

⁷ And there was a strife ^H7379 between the herdmen ^H7462 of Abram's ^H87 cattle ^H4735 and the herdmen ^H7462 of Lot's ^H3876 cattle: ^H4735 and the Canaanite ^H3669 and the Perizzite ^H6522 dwelled ^H3427 then in the land. ^H776

⁸ And Abram ^H87 said ^H559 unto Lot, ^H3876 Let there be ^H1961 no ^H408 strife, ^H4808 I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen ^H7462 and thy herdmen; ^H7462 for we ^H582 be brethren. ^H251

¹³ But the men ^H582 of Sodom ^H5467 were wicked ^H7451 and sinners ^H2400 before the LORD ^H3068 exceedingly. ^H3966

¹⁴ And the LORD ^H3068 said ^H559 unto Abram, ^H87 after ^H310 that Lot ^H3876 was separated ^H6504 from him, Lift up ^H5375 now thine eyes, ^H5869 and look ^H7200 from the place ^H4725 where thou art northward, ^H6828 and southward, ^H5045 and eastward, ^H6924 and westward: ^H3220

¹² Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the Plain, and moved his tent as far as Sodom.

¹ And Abram goeth up from Egypt (he and his wife, and all that he hath, and Lot with him) towards the south;

² and Abram `is' exceedingly wealthy in cattle, in silver, and in gold.

³ And he goeth on his journeyings from the south, even unto Bethel, unto the place where his tent had been at the commencement, between Bethel and Hai --

⁴ unto the place of the altar which he made there at the first, and there doth Abram preach in the name of Jehovah.

⁵ And also to Lot, who is going with Abram, there hath been sheep and oxen and tents;

⁶ and the land hath not suffered them to dwell together, for their substance hath been much, and they have not been able to dwell together;

⁷ and there is a strife between those feeding Abram's cattle and those feeding Lot's cattle; and the Canaanite and the Perizzite `are' then dwelling in the land.

⁸ And Abram saith unto Lot, `Let there not, I pray thee, be strife between me and thee, and between my shepherds and thy shepherds, for we `are' men -- brethren.

⁹ Is not all the land before thee? be parted, I pray thee, from me; if to the left, then I to the right; and if to the right, then I to the left.'

¹⁰ And Lot lifteth up his eyes, and seeth the whole circuit of the Jordan that it `is' all a watered country (before Jehovah's destroying Sodom and Gomorrah, as Jehovah's garden, as the land of Egypt,) in thy coming toward Zoar,

¹¹ and Lot chooseth for himself the whole circuit of the Jordan; and Lot journeyeth from the east, and they are parted -- a man from his companion;

¹² Abram hath dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot hath dwelt in the cities of the circuit, and tenteth unto Sodom;

¹³ and the men of Sodom `are' evil, and sinners before Jehovah exceedingly.

¹⁴ And Jehovah said unto Abram, after Lot's being parted from him, `Lift up, I pray thee, thine eyes, and look from the place where thou `art', northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward;

¹⁵ for the whole of the land which thou are seeing, to thee I give it, and to thy seed -- to the age.

¹⁶ And I have set thy seed as dust of the earth, so that, if one is able to number the dust of the earth, even thy seed is numbered;

¹⁷ rise, go up and down through the land, to its length, and to its breadth, for to thee I give it.'

¹⁸ And Abram tenteth, and cometh, and dwelleth among the oaks of Mamre, which `are' in Hebron, and buildeth there an altar to Jehovah.

¹⁰ Lot lifted up his eyes, and saw all the plain of the Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before Yahweh destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, like the garden of Yahweh, like the land of Egypt, as you go to Zoar.

¹¹ So Lot chose the Plain of the Jordan for himself. Lot traveled east, and they separated themselves the one from the other.

¹² Abram lived in the land of Canaan, and Lot lived in the cities of the plain, and moved his tent as far as Sodom.

¹³ Now the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinners against Yahweh.

¹⁴ Yahweh said to Abram, after Lot was separated from him, "Now, lift up your eyes, and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward,

¹⁵ for all the land which you see, I will give to you, and to your offspring forever.

¹⁶ I will make your offspring as the dust of the earth, so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then your seed may also be numbered.

¹⁷ Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it to you."

¹⁸ Abram moved his tent, and came and lived by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built an altar there to Yahweh.

⁵ And Lot, who went with him, had flocks and herds and tents;

⁶ So that the land was not wide enough for the two of them: their property was so great that there was not room for them together.

⁷ And there was an argument between the keepers of Abram's cattle and the keepers of Lot's cattle: at that time the Canaanites and Perizzites were still living in the land.

⁸ Then Abram said to Lot, Let there be no argument between me and you, and between my herdmen and your herdmen, for we are brothers.

⁹ Is not all the land before you? then let us go our separate ways: if you go to the left, I will go to the right; or if you take the right, I will go to the left.

¹⁰ And Lot, lifting up his eyes and looking an the valley of Jordan, saw that it was well watered everywhere, before the Lord had sent destruction on Sodom and Gomorrah; it was like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, on the way to Zoar.

¹¹ So Lot took for himself all the valley of Jordan, and went to the east, and they were parted from one another.

¹² Abram went on living in the land of Canaan, and Lot went to the lowland towns, moving his tent as far as Sodom.

¹³ Now the men of Sodom were evil, and great sinners before the Lord.

¹⁴ And the Lord had said to Abram, after Lot was parted from him, From this place where you are take a look to the north and to the south, to the east and to the west:

¹⁵ For all the land which you see I will give to you and to your seed for ever.

¹⁶ And I will make your children like the dust of the earth, so that if the dust of the earth may be numbered, then will your children be numbered.

¹⁷ Come, go through all the land from one end to the other for I will give it to you.

¹⁸ And Abram, moving his tent, came and made his living-place by the holy tree of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and made an altar there to the Lord.
