4 For thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, concerning the houses of this city, and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, which are thrown down by the mounts, and by the sword;
5 They come to fight with the Chaldeans, but it is to fill them with the dead bodies of men, whom I have slain in mine anger and in my fury, and for all whose wickedness I have hid my face from this city.
6 Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them, and will reveal unto them the abundance of peace and truth.
7 And I will cause the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel to return, and will build them, as at the first.
8 And I will cleanse them from all their iniquity, whereby they have sinned against me; and I will pardon all their iniquities, whereby they have sinned, and whereby they have transgressed against me.
9 And it shall be to me a name of joy, a praise and an honour before all the nations of the earth, which shall hear all the good that I do unto them: and they shall fear and tremble for all the goodness and for all the prosperity that I procure unto it.
4 For thus saith H559 the LORD, H3068 the God H430 of Israel, H3478 concerning the houses H1004 of this city, H5892 and concerning the houses H1004 of the kings H4428 of Judah, H3063 which are thrown down H5422 by the mounts, H5550 and by the sword; H2719
5 They come H935 to fight H3898 with the Chaldeans, H3778 but it is to fill H4390 them with the dead bodies H6297 of men, H120 whom I have slain H5221 in mine anger H639 and in my fury, H2534 and for all whose wickedness H7451 I have hid H5641 my face H6440 from this city. H5892
6 Behold, I will bring H5927 it health H724 and cure, H4832 and I will cure H7495 them, and will reveal H1540 unto them the abundance H6283 of peace H7965 and truth. H571
7 And I will cause the captivity H7622 of Judah H3063 and the captivity H7622 of Israel H3478 to return, H7725 and will build H1129 them, as at the first. H7223
8 And I will cleanse H2891 them from all their iniquity, H5771 whereby they have sinned H2398 against me; and I will pardon H5545 all their iniquities, H5771 whereby they have sinned, H2398 and whereby they have transgressed H6586 against me.
9 And it shall be to me a name H8034 of joy, H8342 a praise H8416 and an honour H8597 before all the nations H1471 of the earth, H776 which shall hear H8085 all the good H2896 that I do H6213 unto them: and they shall fear H6342 and tremble H7264 for all the goodness H2896 and for all the prosperity H7965 that I procure H6213 unto it.
4 For thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, concerning the houses of this city, and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, which are broken down `to make a defence' against the mounds and against the sword;
5 while `men' come to fight with the Chaldeans, and to fill them with the dead bodies of men, whom I have slain in mine anger and in my wrath, and for all whose wickedness I have hid my face from this city:
6 Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them; and I will reveal unto them abundance of peace and truth.
7 And I will cause the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel to return, and will build them, as at the first.
8 And I will cleanse them from all their iniquity, whereby they have sinned against me; and I will pardon all their iniquities, whereby they have sinned against me, and whereby they have transgressed against me.
9 And `this city' shall be to me for a name of joy, for a praise and for a glory, before all the nations of the earth, which shall hear all the good that I do unto them, and shall fear and tremble for all the good and for all the peace that I procure unto it.
4 For thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, concerning the houses of this city, and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, that are broken down for the mounts, and for the tool;
5 they are coming in to fight with the Chaldeans, and to fill them with the carcases of men, whom I have smitten in Mine anger, and in My fury, and `for' whom I have hidden My face from this city, because of all their evil:
6 Lo, I am increasing to it health and cure, And have healed them, and revealed to them The abundance of peace and truth.
7 And I have turned back the captivity of Judah, And the captivity of Israel, And I have built them as at the first,
8 And cleansed them from all their iniquity, That they have sinned against Me, And I have pardoned all their iniquities, That they have sinned against Me, And that they transgressed against Me.
9 And it hath been to Me for a name of joy, For praise, and for beauty, to all nations of the earth, Who hear of all the good that I am doing them, And they have feared, And they have trembled for all the good, And for all the peace, that I am doing to it.
4 For thus saith Jehovah the God of Israel concerning the houses of this city, and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, which are thrown down because of the mounds and because of the sword:
5 They come to fight with the Chaldeans, but to fill them with the dead bodies of the men whom I have slain in mine anger and in my fury, and for all whose wickedness I have hid my face from this city.
6 Behold, I will apply a healing dressing to it and cure, and I will heal them, and will reveal unto them an abundance of peace and truth.
7 And I will turn the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel, and will build them, as at the beginning.
8 And I will cleanse them from all their iniquity, whereby they have sinned against me, and I will pardon all their iniquities, whereby they have sinned against me, and whereby they have transgressed against me.
9 And it shall be to me a name of joy, a praise and a glory before all the nations of the earth, which shall hear of all the good that I do unto them; and they shall fear and tremble for all the good and for all the prosperity that I procure unto it.
4 For thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, concerning the houses of this city, and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, which are broken down [to make a defense] against the mounds and against the sword;
5 while [men] come to fight with the Chaldeans, and to fill them with the dead bodies of men, whom I have killed in my anger and in my wrath, and for all whose wickedness I have hid my face from this city:
6 Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them; and I will reveal to them abundance of peace and truth.
7 I will cause the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel to return, and will build them, as at the first.
8 I will cleanse them from all their iniquity, by which they have sinned against me; and I will pardon all their iniquities, by which they have sinned against me, and by which they have transgressed against me.
9 [This city] shall be to me for a name of joy, for a praise and for a glory, before all the nations of the earth, which shall hear all the good that I do to them, and shall fear and tremble for all the good and for all the peace that I procure to it.
4 For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, has said about the houses of this town and the houses of the kings of Judah, which have been broken down to make earthworks and ...;
5 ... and to make them full of the dead bodies of men whom I have put to death in my wrath and in my passion, and because of whose evil-doing I have kept my face covered from this town.
6 See, I will make it healthy and well again, I will even make them well; I will let them see peace and good faith in full measure.
7 And I will let the fate of Judah and of Israel be changed, building them up as at first.
8 And I will make them clean from all their sin, with which they have been sinning against me; I will have forgiveness for all their sins, with which they have been sinning against me, and with which they have done evil against me.
9 And this town will be to me for a name of joy, for a praise and a glory before all the nations of the earth, who, hearing of all the good which I am doing for them, will be shaking with fear because of all the good and the peace which I am doing for it.

Commentary on Jeremiah 33 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 33
The scope of this chapter is much the same with that of the foregoing chapter-to confirm the promise of the restoration of the Jews, notwithstanding the present desolations of their country and dispersions of their people. And these promises have, both in type and tendency, a reference as far forward as to the gospel church, to which this second edition of the Jewish church was at length to resign its dignities and privileges. It is here promised,
Jer 33:1-9
Observe here,
Jer 33:10-16
Here is a further prediction of the happy state of Judah and Jerusalem after their glorious return out of captivity, issuing gloriously at length in the kingdom of the Messiah.
Jer 33:17-26
Three of God's covenants, that of royalty with David and his seed, that of the priesthood with Aaron and his seed, and that of Peculiarity with Abraham and his seed, seemed to be all broken and lost while the captivity lasted; but it is here promised that, notwithstanding that interruption and discontinuance for a time, they shall all three take place again, and the true intents and meaning of them all shall be abundantly answered in the New Testament blessings, typified by those conferred on the Jews after their return out of captivity.
