3 And David H1732 went H3212 thence to Mizpeh H4708 of Moab: H4124 and he said H559 unto the king H4428 of Moab, H4124 Let my father H1 and my mother, H517 I pray thee, come forth, H3318 and be with you, till I know H3045 what God H430 will do H6213 for me.
Now it came to pass in the days H3117 when the judges H8199 ruled, H8199 that there was a famine H7458 in the land. H776 And a certain man H376 of Bethlehemjudah H1035 H3063 went H3212 to sojourn H1481 in the country H7704 of Moab, H4124 he, and his wife, H802 and his two H8147 sons. H1121 And the name H8034 of the man H376 was Elimelech, H458 and the name H8034 of his wife H802 Naomi, H5281 and the name H8034 of his two H8147 sons H1121 Mahlon H4248 and Chilion, H3630 Ephrathites H673 of Bethlehemjudah. H1035 H3063 And they came H935 into the country H7704 of Moab, H4124 and continued there. And Elimelech H458 Naomi's H5281 husband H376 died; H4191 and she was left, H7604 and her two H8147 sons. H1121 And they took H5375 them wives H802 of the women H802 of Moab; H4125 the name H8034 of the one H259 was Orpah, H6204 and the name H8034 of the other H8145 Ruth: H7327 and they dwelled H3427 there about ten H6235 years. H8141
And the king H4428 said H559 unto Zadok, H6659 Carry back H7725 the ark H727 of God H430 into the city: H5892 if I shall find H4672 favour H2580 in the eyes H5869 of the LORD, H3068 he will bring me again, H7725 and shew H7200 me both it, and his habitation: H5116 But if he thus say, H559 I have no delight H2654 in thee; behold, here am I, let him do H6213 to me as seemeth H5869 good H2896 unto him.
For G1063 God G2316 commanded, G1781 saying, G3004 Honour G5091 thy G4675 father G3962 and G2532 mother: G3384 and, G2532 He that curseth G2551 father G3962 or G2228 mother, G3384 let him die G5053 the death. G2288 But G1161 ye G5210 say, G3004 Whosoever G3739 G302 shall say G2036 to his father G3962 or G2228 his mother, G3384 It is a gift, G1435 by G1537 whatsoever G3739 G1437 thou mightest be profited G5623 by me; G1700 And G2532 honour G5091 not G3364 his G846 father G3962 or G2228 his G846 mother, G3384 he shall be free. Thus G2532 have ye made G208 the commandment G1785 of God G2316 of none effect G208 by G1223 your G5216 tradition. G3862

Chapter 22
David, being driven from Achish, returns into the land of Israel to be hunted by Saul.
1Sa 22:1-5
Here,
1Sa 22:6-19
We have seen the progress of David's troubles; now here we have the progress of Saul's wickedness. He seems to have laid aside the thoughts of all other business and to have devoted himself wholly to the pursuit of David. He heard at length, by the common fame of the country, that David was discovered (that is, that he appeared publicly and enlisted men into his service); and hereupon he called all his servants about him, and sat down under a tree, or grove, in the high place at Gibeah, with his spear in his hand for a sceptre, intimating the force by which he designed to rule, and the present temper of his spirit, or its distemper rather, which was to kill all that stood in his way. In this bloody court of inquisition,
