21 Prove G1381 all things; G3956 hold fast G2722 that which G3588 is good. G2570
But G1161 the natural G5591 man G444 receiveth G1209 not G3756 the things G3588 of the Spirit G4151 of God: G2316 for G1063 they are G2076 foolishness G3472 unto him: G846 neither G2532 G3756 can G1410 he know G1097 them, because G3754 they are spiritually G4153 discerned. G350 But G1161 he that is spiritual G4152 judgeth G3303 G350 all things, G3956 yet G1161 he himself G846 is judged G350 of G5259 no man. G3762
And what he did H6213 unto Dathan H1885 and Abiram, H48 the sons H1121 of Eliab, H446 the son H1121 of Reuben: H7205 how the earth H776 opened H6475 her mouth, H6310 and swallowed them up, H1104 and their households, H1004 and their tents, H168 and all the substance H3351 that was in their possession, H7272 in the midst H7130 of all Israel: H3478 But your eyes H5869 have seen H7200 all the great H1419 acts H4639 of the LORD H3068 which he did. H6213 Therefore shall ye keep H8104 all the commandments H4687 which H834 I command H6680 you this day, H3117 that ye may be strong, H2388 and go in H935 and possess H3423 the land, H776 whither ye go H5674 to possess H3423 it; And that ye may prolong H748 your days H3117 in the land, H127 which the LORD H3068 sware H7650 unto your fathers H1 to give H5414 unto them and to their seed, H2233 a land H776 that floweth H2100 with milk H2461 and honey. H1706
But G1161 if G3362 there be G5600 no G3362 interpreter, G1328 let him keep silence G4601 in G1722 the church; G1577 and G1161 let him speak G2980 to himself, G1438 and G2532 to God. G2316 G1161 Let G2980 the prophets G4396 speak G2980 two G1417 or G2228 three, G5140 and G2532 let G1252 the other G243 judge. G1252
And he said H559 unto them, Set H7760 your hearts H3824 unto all the words H1697 which I testify H5749 among you this day, H3117 which ye shall command H6680 your children H1121 to observe H8104 to do, H6213 all the words H1697 of this law. H8451 For it is not a vain H7386 thing H1697 for you; because it is your life: H2416 and through this thing H1697 ye shall prolong H748 your days H3117 in the land, H127 whither ye go over H5674 Jordan H3383 to possess H3423 it.
My son, H1121 let not them depart H3868 from thine eyes: H5869 keep H5341 sound wisdom H8454 and discretion: H4209 So shall they be life H2416 unto thy soul, H5315 and grace H2580 to thy neck. H1621 Then shalt thou walk H3212 in thy way H1870 safely, H983 and thy foot H7272 shall not stumble. H5062 When thou liest down, H7901 thou shalt not be afraid: H6342 yea, thou shalt lie down, H7901 and thy sleep H8142 shall be sweet. H6149
Bind H7194 them continually H8548 upon thine heart, H3820 and tie H6029 them about thy neck. H1621 When thou goest, H1980 it shall lead H5148 thee; when thou sleepest, H7901 it shall keep H8104 thee; and when thou awakest, H6974 it shall talk H7878 with thee. For the commandment H4687 is a lamp; H5216 and the law H8451 is light; H216 and reproofs H8433 of instruction H4148 are the way H1870 of life: H2416
Beware G1161 G4337 of G575 false prophets, G5578 which G3748 come G2064 to G4314 you G5209 in G1722 sheep's G4263 clothing, G1742 but G1161 inwardly G2081 they are G1526 ravening G727 wolves. G3074 Ye shall know G1921 them G846 by G575 their G846 fruits. G2590 G3385 Do men gather G4816 grapes G4718 of G575 thorns, G173 or G2228 figs G4810 of G575 thistles? G5146 Even so G3779 every G3956 good G18 tree G1186 bringeth forth G4160 good G2570 fruit; G2590 but G1161 a corrupt G4550 tree G1186 bringeth forth G4160 evil G4190 fruit. G2590 A good G18 tree G1186 cannot G3756 G1410 bring forth G4160 evil G4190 fruit, G2590 neither G3761 can a corrupt G4550 tree G1186 bring forth G4160 good G2570 fruit. G2590 Every G3956 tree G1186 that bringeth G4160 not G3361 forth G4160 good G2570 fruit G2590 is hewn down, G1581 and G2532 cast G906 into G1519 the fire. G4442 Wherefore G686 by G575 their G846 fruits G2590 ye shall know G1921 them. G846
And G2532 when he had called G4341 all G3956 the people G3793 unto him, he said G3004 unto them, G846 Hearken G191 unto me G3450 every one G3956 of you, and G2532 understand: G4920 There is G2076 nothing G3762 from without G1855 a man, G444 that G3739 entering G1531 into G1519 him G846 can G1410 defile G2840 him: G846 but G235 the things which come G1607 out of G575 him, G846 those G1565 are they G2076 that defile G2840 the man. Commentary on 1 Thessalonians 5 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 5
The apostle, having spoken in the end of the foregoing chapter concerning the resurrection, and the second coming of Christ, proceeds to speak concerning the uselessness of enquiring after the particular time of Christ's coming, which would be sudden and terrible to the wicked, but comfortable to the saints (v. 1-5). He then exhorts them to the duties of watchfulness, sobriety, and the exercise of faith, love, and hope, as being suitable to their state (v. 6-10). In the next words he exhorts them to several duties they owed to others, or to one another (v. 11-15), afterwards to several other Christian duties of great importance (v. 16-22), and then concludes this epistle (v. 23-28).

In these words observe,
1Th 5:6-10
On what had been said, the apostle grounds seasonable exhortations to several needful duties.
1Th 5:11-15
In these words the apostle exhorts the Thessalonians to several duties.
1Th 5:16-22
Here we have divers short exhortations, that will not burden our memories, but will be of great use to direct the motions of our hearts and lives; for the duties are of great importance, and we may observe how they are connected together, and have a dependence upon one another.
1Th 5:23-28
In these words, which conclude this epistle, observe,
