12 Having G2192 damnation, G2917 because G3754 they have cast off G114 their first G4413 faith. G4102
I marvel G2296 that G3754 ye are G3346 so G3779 soon G5030 removed G3346 from G575 him that called G2564 you G5209 into G1722 the grace G5485 of Christ G5547 unto G1519 another G2087 gospel: G2098
My G3450 brethren, G80 be G1096 not G3361 many G4183 masters, G1320 knowing G1492 that G3754 we shall receive G2983 the greater G3187 condemnation. G2917
Nevertheless G235 I have G2192 somewhat against G2596 thee, G4675 because G3754 thou hast left G863 thy G4675 first G4413 love. G26 Remember G3421 therefore G3767 from whence G4159 thou art fallen, G1601 and G2532 repent, G3340 and G2532 do G4160 the first G4413 works; G2041 or else G1490 I will come G2064 unto thee G4671 quickly, G5035 and G2532 will remove G2795 thy G4675 candlestick G3087 out of G1537 his G846 place, G5117 except G3362 thou repent. Directions are here given concerning the taking of widows into the number of those who were employed by the church and had maintenance from the church: Honour widows that are widows indeed. Honour them, that is, maintain them, admit them into office. There was in those times an office in the church in which widows were employed, and that was to tend the sick and the aged, to look to them by the direction of the deacons. We read of the care taken of widows immediately upon the first forming of the Christian church (Acts 6:1), where the Grecians thought their widows were neglected in the daily ministration and provision made for poor widows. The general rule is to honour widows that are widows indeed, to maintain them, to relieve them with respect and tenderness.
