13 For G1063 whether G1535 we be beside ourselves, G1839 it is to God: G2316 or whether G1535 we be sober, G4993 it is for your cause. G5213
I say G3004 again, G3825 Let G1380 no G3361 man G5100 think G1380 me G1511 G3165 a fool; G878 if otherwise, G1490 yet G2579 as G5613 a fool G878 receive G1209 me, G3165 that G2443 I G2504 may boast myself G2744 a G5100 little. G3397 That which G3739 I speak, G2980 I speak G2980 it not G3756 after G2596 the Lord, G2962 but G235 as G5613 it were foolishly, G1722 G877 in G1722 this G5026 confidence G5287 of boasting. G2746
And G1161 as he G846 thus G5023 spake for himself, G626 Festus G5347 said G5346 with a loud G3173 voice, G5456 Paul, G3972 thou art beside thyself; G3105 much G4183 learning G1121 doth make G4062 thee G4571 mad. G1519 G3130 But G1161 he said, G5346 I am G3105 not G3756 mad, G3105 most noble G2903 Festus; G5347 but G235 speak forth G669 the words G4487 of truth G225 and G2532 soberness. G4997
And David H1732 said H559 unto Michal, H4324 It was before H6440 the LORD, H3068 which chose H977 me before thy father, H1 and before all his house, H1004 to appoint H6680 me ruler H5057 over the people H5971 of the LORD, H3068 over Israel: H3478 therefore will I play H7832 before H6440 the LORD. H3068 And I will yet be more vile H7043 than thus, H2063 and will be base H8217 in mine own sight: H5869 and of the maidservants H519 which thou hast spoken H559 of, of them shall I be had in honour. H3513
We G2249 are fools G3474 for G1223 Christ's G5547 sake, G1223 but G1161 ye G5210 are wise G5429 in G1722 Christ; G5547 we G2249 are weak, G772 but G1161 ye G5210 are strong; G2478 ye G5210 are honourable, G1741 but G1161 we G2249 are despised. G820 Even G891 unto this present G737 hour G5610 we G3983 both G2532 hunger, G3983 and G2532 thirst, G1372 and G2532 are naked, G1130 and G2532 are buffeted, G2852 and G2532 have no certain dwellingplace; G790 And G2532 labour, G2872 working G2038 with our own G2398 hands: G5495 being reviled, G3058 we bless; G2127 being persecuted, G1377 we suffer it: G430 Being defamed, G987 we intreat: G3870 we are made G1096 as G5613 the filth G4027 of the world, G2889 and are the offscouring G4067 of all things G3956 unto G2193 this day. G737
For G1063 our G2257 exhortation G3874 was not G3756 of G1537 deceit, G4106 nor G3761 of G1537 uncleanness, G167 nor G3777 in G1722 guile: G1388 But G235 as G2531 we were allowed G1381 of G5259 God G2316 to be put in trust G4100 with the gospel, G2098 even so G3779 we speak; G2980 not G3756 as G5613 pleasing G700 men, G444 but G235 God, G2316 which trieth G1381 our G2257 hearts. G2588 For G1063 neither G3777 at any time G4218 used we G1096 flattering G2850 words, G1722 G3056 as G2531 ye know, G1492 nor G3777 a cloke G1722 G4392 of covetousness; G4124 God G2316 is witness: G3144 Nor G3777 of G1537 men G444 sought G2212 we glory, G1391 neither G3777 of G575 you, G5216 nor G3777 yet of G575 others, G243 when we might G1410 have been G1511 burdensome, G1722 G922 as G5613 the apostles G652 of Christ. G5547 But G235 we were G1096 gentle G2261 among G1722 G3319 you, G5216 even as G5613 a nurse G5162 cherisheth G302 G2282 her G1438 children: G5043 So G3779 being affectionately desirous G2442 of you, G5216 we were willing G2106 to have imparted G3330 unto you, G5213 not G3756 the gospel G2098 of God G2316 only, G3440 but G235 also G2532 our own G1438 souls, G5590 because G1360 ye were G1096 dear G27 unto us. G2254 For G1063 ye remember, G3421 brethren, G80 our G2257 labour G2873 and G2532 travail: G3449 for G1063 labouring G2038 night G3571 and G2532 day, G2250 because G4314 we would G1912 not G3361 be chargeable G1912 unto any G5100 of you, G5216 we preached G2784 unto G1519 you G5209 the gospel G2098 of God. G2316 Ye G5210 are witnesses, G3144 and G2532 God G2316 also, how G5613 holily G3743 and G2532 justly G1346 and G2532 unblameably G274 we behaved ourselves G1096 among you G5213 that believe: G4100 As G2509 ye know G1492 how G5613 we exhorted G3870 and G2532 comforted G3888 and charged G3140 every G1538 one G1520 of you, G5209 G5216 as G5613 a father G3962 doth his G1438 children, G5043

Commentary on 2 Corinthians 5 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 5
The apostle proceeds in showing the reasons why they did not faint under their afflictions, namely, their expectation, desire, and assurance of happiness after death (v. 1-5), and deduces an inference for the comfort of believers in their present state (v. 6-8), and another to quicken them in their duty (v. 9-11). Then he makes an apology for seeming to commend himself, and gives a good reason for his zeal and diligence (v. 12-15), and mentions two things that are necessary in order to our living to Christ, regeneration and reconciliation (v. 16-21).
2Cr 5:1-11
The apostle in these verses pursues the argument of the former chapter, concerning the grounds of their courage and patience under afflictions. And,
2Cr 5:12-15
Here observe,
2Cr 5:16-21
In these verses the apostle mentions two things that are necessary in order to our living to Christ, both of which are the consequences of Christ's dying for us; namely, regeneration and reconciliation.
