4 I have G2192 no G3756 greater G3186 G5130 joy G5479 than to G2443 hear G191 that my G1699 children G5043 walk G4043 in G1722 truth. G225
[[A Psalm of David.]] H1732 Judge H8199 me, O LORD; H3068 for I have walked H1980 in mine integrity: H8537 I have trusted H982 also in the LORD; H3068 therefore I shall not slide. H4571 Examine H974 me, O LORD, H3068 and prove H5254 me; try H6884 my reins H3629 and my heart. H3820 For thy lovingkindness H2617 is before mine eyes: H5869 and I have walked H1980 in thy truth. H571
Then G3767 Jesus G2424 said G2036 unto them, G846 Yet G2089 a little G3398 while G5550 is G2076 the light G5457 with G3326 you. G5216 Walk G4043 while G2193 ye have G2192 the light, G5457 lest G3363 darkness G4653 come upon G2638 you: G5209 for G2532 he that walketh G4043 in G1722 darkness G4653 knoweth G1492 not G3756 whither G4226 he goeth. G5217 While G2193 ye have G2192 light, G5457 believe G4100 in G1519 the light, G5457 that G2443 ye may be G1096 the children G5207 of light. G5457 These things G5023 spake G2980 Jesus, G2424 and departed, G565 and G2532 did hide himself G2928 from G575 them. G846
I write G1125 not G3756 these things G5023 to shame G1788 you, G5209 but G235 as G5613 my G3450 beloved G27 sons G5043 I warn G3560 you. For G1063 though G1437 ye have G2192 ten thousand G3463 instructors G3807 in G1722 Christ, G5547 yet G235 have ye not G3756 many G4183 fathers: G3962 for G1063 in G1722 Christ G5547 Jesus G2424 I G1473 have begotten G1080 you G5209 through G1223 the gospel. Commentary on 3 John 1 Matthew Henry Commentary
An Exposition, With Practical Observations, of
The Third Epistle of John
Chapter 1
In this epistle the apostle congratulates Gaius upon the prosperity of his soul (v. 1, 2), upon the fame he had among good Christians (v. 3, 4), and upon his charity and hospitality to the servants of Christ (v. 5, 6). He complains of contemptuous treatment by an ambitious Diotrephes (v. 9, 10), recommends Demetrius (v. 12), and expresses his hope of visiting Gaius shortly (v. 13, 14).
