20 And G1161 when neither G3383 sun G2246 nor G3383 stars G798 in G1909 many G4119 days G2250 appeared, G2014 and G5037 no G3756 small G3641 tempest G5494 lay on G1945 us, all G3956 hope G1680 that we G2248 should be saved G4982 was G4014 then G3063 taken away. G4014
And the LORD H3068 said H559 unto Moses, H4872 Stretch out H5186 thine hand H3027 toward heaven, H8064 that there may be darkness H2822 over the land H776 of Egypt, H4714 even darkness H2822 which may be felt. H4959 And Moses H4872 stretched forth H5186 his hand H3027 toward heaven; H8064 and there was a thick H653 darkness H2822 in all the land H776 of Egypt H4714 three H7969 days: H3117 They saw H7200 not one H376 another, H251 neither rose H6965 any H376 from his place for three H7969 days: H3117 but all the children H1121 of Israel H3478 had light H216 in their dwellings. H4186
For he commandeth, H559 and raiseth H5975 the stormy H5591 wind, H7307 which lifteth up H7311 the waves H1530 thereof. They mount up H5927 to the heaven, H8064 they go down H3381 again to the depths: H8415 their soul H5315 is melted H4127 because of trouble. H7451 They reel to and fro, H2287 and stagger H5128 like a drunken man, H7910 and are at their wits' H2451 end. H1104
Then said H559 they unto him, What shall we do H6213 unto thee, that the sea H3220 may be calm H8367 unto us? for the sea H3220 wrought, H1980 and was tempestuous. H5590 And he said H559 unto them, Take me up, H5375 and cast me forth H2904 into the sea; H3220 so shall the sea H3220 be calm H8367 unto you: for I know H3045 that for my sake H7945 this great H1419 tempest H5591 is upon you. Nevertheless the men H582 rowed hard H2864 to bring H7725 it to the land; H3004 but they could H3201 not: for the sea H3220 wrought, H1980 and was tempestuous H5590 against them. Wherefore they cried H7121 unto the LORD, H3068 and said, H559 We beseech thee, H577 O LORD, H3068 we beseech thee, let us not perish H6 for this man's H376 life, H5315 and lay H5414 not upon us innocent H5355 H5355 blood: H1818 for thou, O LORD, H3068 hast done H6213 as it pleased H2654 thee.
And, G2532 behold, G2400 there arose G1096 a great G3173 tempest G4578 in G1722 the sea, G2281 insomuch that G5620 the ship G4143 was covered G2572 with G5259 the waves: G2949 but G1161 he G846 was asleep. G2518 And G2532 his G846 disciples G3101 came G4334 to him, and awoke G1453 him, G846 saying, G3004 Lord, G2962 save G4982 us: G2248 we perish. G622

Commentary on Acts 27 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 27
This whole chapter is taken up with an account of Paul's voyage towards Rome, when he was sent thither a prisoner by Festus the governor, upon his appeal to Caesar.
Act 27:1-11
It does not appear how long it was after Paul's conference with Agrippa that he was sent away for Rome, pursuant to his appeal to Caesar; but it is likely they took the first convenience they could hear of to do it; in the mean time Paul is in the midst of his friends at Caesarea-they comforts to him, and he a blessing to them. But here we are told,
Act 27:12-20
In these verses we have,
Act 27:21-44
We have here the issue of the distress of Paul and his fellow-travellers; they escaped with their lives and that was all, and that was for Paul's sake. We are here told (v. 37) what number there were on board-mariners, merchants, soldiers, prisoners, and other passengers, in all two hundred and seventy-six souls; this is taken notice of to make us the more concerned for them in reading the story, that they were such a considerable number, whose lives were now in the utmost jeopardy, and one Paul among them worth more than all the rest. We left them in despair, giving up themselves for gone. Whether they called every man on his God, as Jonah's mariners did, we are not told; it is well if this laudable practice in a storm was not gone out of fashion and made a jest of. However, Paul among these seamen was not, like Jonah among his, the cause of the storm, but the comforter in the storm, and as much a credit to the profession of an apostle as Jonah was a blemish to the character of a prophet. Now here we have,
