21 But G1161 all G3956 that heard G191 him were amazed, G1839 and G2532 said; G3004 Is G2076 not G3756 this G3778 he that destroyed G4199 them which G3588 called on G1941 this G5124 name G3686 in G1722 Jerusalem, G2419 and G2532 came G2064 hither G5602 for G1519 that G5124 intent, G1519 that G2443 he might bring G71 them G846 bound G1210 unto G1909 the chief priests? G749
Then G1161 Ananias G367 answered, G611 Lord, G2962 I have heard G191 by G575 many G4183 of G4012 this G5127 man, G435 how much G3745 evil G2556 he hath done G4160 to thy G4675 saints G40 at G1722 Jerusalem: G2419 And G2532 here G5602 he hath G2192 authority G1849 from G3844 the chief priests G749 to bind G1210 all G3956 that call G1941 on thy G4675 name. G3686
For G1063 ye have heard G191 of my G1699 conversation G391 in time past G4218 in G1722 the Jews' religion, G2454 how that G3754 beyond G2596 measure G5236 I persecuted G1377 the church G1577 of God, G2316 and G2532 wasted G4199 it: G846 And G2532 profited G4298 in G1722 the Jews' religion G2454 above G5228 many G4183 my equals G4915 in G1722 mine own G3450 nation, G1085 being G5225 more exceedingly G4056 zealous G2207 of the traditions G3862 of my G3450 fathers. G3967 But G1161 when G3753 it pleased G2106 God, G2316 who G3588 separated G873 me G3165 from G1537 my G3450 mother's G3384 womb, G2836 and G2532 called G2564 me by G1223 his G846 grace, G5485 To reveal G601 his G846 Son G5207 in G1722 me, G1698 that G2443 I might preach G2097 him G846 among G1722 the heathen; G1484 immediately G2112 I conferred G4323 not G3756 with flesh G4561 and G2532 blood: G129 Neither G3761 went I up G424 to G1519 Jerusalem G2414 to G4314 them which were apostles G652 before G4253 me; G1700 but G235 I went G565 into G1519 Arabia, G688 and G2532 returned G5290 again G3825 unto G1519 Damascus. G1154 Then G1899 after G3326 three G5140 years G2094 I went up G424 to G1519 Jerusalem G2414 to see G2477 Peter, G4074 and G2532 abode G1961 with G4314 him G846 fifteen G1178 days. G2250 But G1161 other G2087 of the apostles G652 saw I G1492 none, G3756 save G1508 James G2385 the Lord's G2962 brother. G80 Now G1161 the things which G3739 I write G1125 unto you, G5213 behold, G2400 before G1799 God, G2316 G3754 I lie G5574 not. G3756 Afterwards G1899 I came G2064 into G1519 the regions G2824 of Syria G4947 and G2532 Cilicia; G2791 And G1161 was G2252 unknown G50 by face G4383 unto the churches G1577 of Judaea G2449 which G3588 were in G1722 Christ: G5547 But G1161 they had G2258 heard G191 only, G3440 That G3754 he which persecuted G1377 us G2248 in times past G4218 now G3568 preacheth G2097 the faith G4102 which G3739 once G4218 he destroyed. G4199 And G2532 they glorified G1392 God G2316 in G1722 me. G1698
And G1161 Saul, G4569 yet G2089 breathing out G1709 threatenings G547 and G2532 slaughter G5408 against G1519 the disciples G3101 of the Lord, G2962 went G4334 unto the high priest, G749 And desired G154 of G3844 him G846 letters G1992 to G1519 Damascus G1154 to G4314 the synagogues, G4864 that G3704 if G1437 he found G2147 any G5100 of this way, G3598 whether G5037 they were G5607 men G435 or G2532 women, G1135 he might bring them G71 bound G1210 unto G1519 Jerusalem. G2419
The neighbours G1069 therefore, G3767 and G2532 they which before G4386 had seen G2334 him G846 that G3754 he was G2258 blind, G5185 said, G3004 Is G2076 not G3756 this G3778 he that sat G2521 and G2532 begged? G4319 Some G243 said, G3004 G3754 This G3778 is he: G2076 G1161 others G243 said, G3754 He is G2076 like G3664 him: G846 but he G1565 said, G3004 G3754 I G1473 am G1510 he.
And G2532 they come G2064 to G4314 Jesus, G2424 and G2532 see G2334 him that was possessed with the devil, G1139 and had G2192 the legion, G3003 sitting, G2521 and G2532 clothed, G2439 and G2532 in his right mind: G4993 and G2532 they were afraid. G5399 And G2532 they that saw G1492 it told G1334 them G846 how G4459 it befell G1096 to him that was possessed with the devil, G1139 and G2532 also concerning G4012 the swine. G5519 And G2532 they began G756 to pray G3870 him G846 to depart G565 out of G575 their G846 coasts. G3725 And G2532 when he G846 was come G1684 into G1519 the ship, G4143 he that had been possessed with the devil G1139 prayed G3870 him G846 that G2443 he might be G5600 with G3326 him. G846 Howbeit G1161 Jesus G2424 suffered G863 him G846 not, G3756 but G235 saith G3004 unto him, G846 Go G5217 home G1519 G3624 G4675 to G4314 thy friends, G4674 and G2532 tell G312 them G846 how great things G3745 the Lord G2962 hath done G4160 for thee, G4671 and G2532 hath had compassion G1653 on thee. G4571 And G2532 he departed, G565 and G2532 began G756 to publish G2784 in G1722 Decapolis G1179 how great things G3745 Jesus G2424 had done G4160 for him: G846 and G2532 all G3956 men did marvel. G2296
And G2532 when he was come G2064 into G1519 his own G846 country, G3968 he taught G1321 them G846 in G1722 their G846 synagogue, G4864 insomuch that G5620 they G846 were astonished, G1605 and G2532 said, G3004 Whence G4159 hath this man G5129 this G3778 wisdom, G4678 and G2532 these mighty works? G1411 Is G2076 not G3756 this G3778 the carpenter's G5045 son? G5207 is G3004 not G3780 his G846 mother G3384 called G3004 Mary? G3137 and G2532 his G846 brethren, G80 James, G2385 and G2532 Joses, G2500 and G2532 Simon, G4613 and G2532 Judas? G2455

Commentary on Acts 9 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 9
In this chapter we have,
Act 9:1-9
We found mention made of Saul twice or thrice in the story of Stephen, for the sacred penman longed to come to his story; and now we are come to it, not quite taking leave of Peter but from henceforward being mostly taken up with Paul the apostle of the Gentiles, as Peter was of the circumcision. His name in Hebrew was Saul-desired, though as remarkably little in stature as his namesake king Saul was tall and stately; one of the ancients calls him, Homo tricubitalis-but four feet and a half in height; his Roman name which he went by among the citizens of Rome was Paul-little. He was born in Tarsus, a city of Cilicia, a free city of the Romans, and himself a freeman of that city. His father and mother were both native Jews; therefore he calls himself a Hebrew of the Hebrews; he was of the tribe of Benjamin, which adhered to Judah. His education was in the schools of Tarsus first, which was a little Athens for learning; there he acquainted himself with the philosophy and poetry of the Greeks. Thence he was sent to the university at Jerusalem, to study divinity and the Jewish law. His tutor was Gamaliel, an eminent Pharisee. He had extraordinary natural parts, and improved mightily in learning. He had likewise a handicraft trade (being bred to tent-making), which was common with those among the Jews who were bred scholars (as Dr. Lightfoot saith), for the earning of their maintenance, and the avoiding of idleness. This is the young man on whom the grace of God wrought this mighty change here recorded, about a year after the ascension of Christ, or little more. We are here told,
Act 9:10-22
As for God, his work is perfect; if he begin, he will make an end: a good work was begun in Saul, when he was brought to Christ's feet, in that word, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And never did Christ leave any that were brought to that. Though Saul was sadly mortified when he lay three days blind, yet he was not abandoned. Christ here takes care of the work of his own hands. He that hath torn will heal-that hath smitten will bind up-that hath convinced will comfort.
Act 9:23-31
Luke here makes no mention of Paul's journey into Arabia, which he tells us himself was immediately after his conversion, Gal. 1:16, 17. As soon as God had revealed his Son in him, that he might preach him, he went not up to Jerusalem, to receive instructions from the apostles (as any other convert would have done, that was designed for the ministry), but he went to Arabia, where there was new ground to break up, and where he would have opportunity of teaching, but not learning; thence he returned to Damascus, and there, three years after his conversion, this happened, which is here recorded.
Act 9:32-35
Here we have,
Act 9:36-43
Here we have another miracle wrought by Peter, for the confirming of the gospel, and which exceeded the former-the raising of Tabitha to life when she had been for some time dead. Here is,
