16 Then H116 the king H4430 commanded, H560 and they brought H858 Daniel, H1841 and cast H7412 him into the den H1358 of lions. H744 Now the king H4430 spake H6032 and said H560 unto Daniel, H1841 Thy God H426 whom thou H607 servest H6399 continually, H8411 he will deliver H7804 thee.
But the salvation H8668 of the righteous H6662 is of the LORD: H3068 he is their strength H4581 in the time H6256 of trouble. H6869 And the LORD H3068 shall help H5826 them, and deliver H6403 them: he shall deliver H6403 them from the wicked, H7563 and save H3467 them, because they trust H2620 in him.
It is better H2896 to trust H2620 in the LORD H3068 than to put confidence H982 in man. H120 It is better H2896 to trust H2620 in the LORD H3068 than to put confidence H982 in princes. H5081
Because he hath set his love H2836 upon me, therefore will I deliver H6403 him: I will set him on high, H7682 because he hath known H3045 my name. H8034 He shall call H7121 upon me, and I will answer H6030 him: I will be with him in trouble; H6869 I will deliver H2502 him, and honour H3513 him. With long H753 life H3117 will I satisfy H7646 him, and shew H7200 him my salvation. H3444
For G1063 there stood by G3936 me G3427 this G5026 night G3571 the angel G32 of God, G2316 whose G3739 I am, G1510 and G2532 whom G3739 I serve, G3000 Saying, G3004 Fear G5399 not, G3361 Paul; G3972 thou G4571 must G1163 be brought before G3936 Caesar: G2541 and, G2532 lo, G2400 God G2316 hath given G5483 thee G4671 all G3956 them that sail G4126 with G3326 thee. G4675
And from G1537 thenceforth G5127 Pilate G4091 sought G2212 to release G630 him: G846 but G1161 the Jews G2453 cried out, G2896 saying, G3004 If G1437 thou let G630 this man G5126 go, G630 thou art G1488 not G3756 Caesar's G2541 friend: G5384 whosoever G3956 maketh G4160 himself G846 a king G935 speaketh against G483 Caesar. G2541 When Pilate G4091 therefore G3767 heard G191 that G5126 saying, G3056 he brought G71 Jesus G2424 forth, G1854 and G2532 sat down G2523 in G1909 the judgment seat G968 in G1519 a place G5117 that is called G3004 the Pavement, G3038 but G1161 in the Hebrew, G1447 Gabbatha. G1042 And G1161 it was G2258 the preparation G3904 of the passover, G3957 and G1161 about G5616 the sixth G1623 hour: G5610 and G2532 he saith G3004 unto the Jews, G2453 Behold G2396 your G5216 King! G935 But G1161 they cried out, G2905 Away with G142 him, away with G142 him, crucify G4717 him. G846 Pilate G4091 saith G3004 unto them, G846 Shall I crucify G4717 your G5216 King? G935 The chief priests G749 answered, G611 We have G2192 no G3756 king G935 but G1508 Caesar. G2541 Then G5119 delivered he G3860 him G846 therefore G3767 unto them G846 to G2443 be crucified. G4717 And G1161 they took G3880 Jesus, G2424 and G2532 led him away. G520
Then G1161 Pilate G4091 said G3004 unto them, G846 Why, G1063 what G5101 evil G2556 hath he done? G4160 And G1161 they cried out G2896 the more exceedingly, G4056 Crucify G4717 him. G846 And G1161 so Pilate, G4091 willing G1014 to content G2425 G4160 the people, G3793 released G630 Barabbas G912 unto them, G846 and G2532 delivered G3860 Jesus, G2424 when he had scourged G5417 him, to G2443 be crucified. G4717
And G2532 she came in G1525 straightway G2112 with G3326 haste G4710 unto G4314 the king, G935 and asked, G154 saying, G3004 I will G2309 that G2443 thou give G1325 me G3427 by and by G1824 in G1909 a charger G4094 the head G2776 of John G2491 the Baptist. G910 And G2532 the king G935 was G1096 exceeding sorry; G4036 yet for G1223 his oath's sake, G3727 and G2532 for their sakes which G3588 sat with him, G4873 he would G2309 not G3756 reject G114 her. G846 And G2532 immediately G2112 the king G935 sent G649 an executioner, G4688 and commanded G2004 his G846 head G2776 to be brought: G5342 and G1161 he went G565 and beheaded G607 him G846 in G1722 the prison, G5438 And G2532 brought G5342 his G846 head G2776 in G1909 a charger, G4094 and G2532 gave G1325 it G846 to the damsel: G2877 and G2532 the damsel G2877 gave G1325 it G846 to her G846 mother. G3384
And G1161 the governor G2232 said, G5346 Why, G1063 what G5101 evil G2556 hath he done? G4160 But G1161 they cried out G2896 the more, G4057 saying, G3004 Let him be crucified. G4717 When G1161 Pilate G4091 saw G1492 that G3754 he could prevail G5623 nothing, G3762 but G235 that rather G3123 a tumult G2351 was made, G1096 he took G2983 water, G5204 and washed G633 his hands G5495 before G561 the multitude, G3793 saying, G3004 I am G1510 innocent G121 of G575 the blood G129 of this G5127 just person: G1342 see G3700 ye G5210 to it. Then G2532 answered G611 all G3956 the people, G2992 and said, G2036 His G846 blood G129 be on G1909 us, G2248 and G2532 on G1909 our G2257 children. G5043 Then G5119 released he G630 Barabbas G912 unto them: G846 and G1161 when he had scourged G5417 Jesus, G2424 he delivered G3860 him to G2443 be crucified. G4717
And G1161 she, being before instructed G4264 of G5259 her G846 mother, G3384 said, G5346 Give G1325 me G3427 here G5602 John G2491 Baptist's G910 head G2776 in G1909 a charger. G4094 And G2532 the king G935 was sorry: G3076 nevertheless for G1161 G1223 the oath's sake, G3727 and G2532 them which sat with him at meat, G4873 he commanded G2753 it to be given G1325 her. And G2532 he sent, G3992 and beheaded G607 John G2491 in G1722 the prison. G5438

Commentary on Daniel 6 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 6
Daniel does not give a continued history of the reigns in which he lived, nor of the state-affairs of the kingdoms of Chaldea and Persia, though he was himself a great man in those affairs; for what are those to us? But he selects such particular passages of story as serve for the confirming of our faith in God and the encouraging of our obedience to him, for the things written aforetime were written for our learning. It is a very observable improvable story that we have in this chapter, how Daniel by faith "stopped the mouths of lions,' and so "obtained a good report,' Heb. 11:33. The three children were cast into the fiery furnace for not committing a known sin, Daniel was cast into the lions' den for not omitting a known duty, and God's miraculously delivering both them and him is left upon record for the encouragement of his servants in all ages to be resolute and constant both in their abhorrence of that which is evil and in their adherence to that which is good, whatever it cost them. In this chapter we have,
And this God is our God for ever and ever.

We are told concerning Daniel,
Dan 6:6-10
Daniel's adversaries could have no advantage against him from any law now in being; they therefore contrive a new law, by which they hope to ensnare him, and in a matter in which they knew they should be sure of him; and such was his fidelity to his God that they gained their point. Here is,

Darius here studies to make some amends for the dishonour he had done both to God and Daniel, in casting Daniel into the lions' den, by doing honour to both.
