25 And they were both H8147 naked, H6174 the man H120 and his wife, H802 and were not ashamed. H954
And the eyes H5869 of them both H8147 were opened, H6491 and they H1992 knew H3045 that they were naked; H5903 and they sewed H8609 fig H8384 leaves H5929 together, H8609 and made themselves H6213 aprons. H2290
And he said, H559 I heard H8085 thy voice H6963 in the garden, H1588 and I was afraid, H3372 because I H595 was naked; H5903 and I hid myself. H2244 And he said, H559 Who H4310 told H5046 thee that thou wast naked? H5903 Hast thou eaten H398 of the tree, H6086 whereof I commanded thee H6680 that thou shouldest not H1115 eat? H398
Yea, let none that wait H6960 on thee be ashamed: H954 let them be ashamed H954 which transgress H898 without cause. H7387
Thy nakedness H6172 shall be uncovered, H1540 yea, thy shame H2781 shall be seen: H7200 I will take H3947 vengeance, H5359 and I will not meet H6293 thee as a man. H120
Fear H3372 not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: H954 neither be thou confounded; H3637 for thou shalt not be put to shame: H2659 for thou shalt forget H7911 the shame H1322 of thy youth, H5934 and shalt not remember H2142 the reproach H2781 of thy widowhood H491 any more.
Were they ashamed H3001 when they had committed H6213 abomination? H8441 nay, H1571 they were not at all H954 ashamed, H954 neither H1571 could H3045 they blush: H3637 therefore they shall fall H5307 among them that fall: H5307 at the time H6256 that I visit H6485 them they shall be cast down, H3782 saith H559 the LORD. H3068
O LORD, H3068 the hope H4723 of Israel, H3478 all that forsake H5800 thee shall be ashamed, H954 and they that depart H3249 from me H5493 shall be written H3789 in the earth, H776 because they have forsaken H5800 the LORD, H3068 the fountain H4726 of living H2416 waters. H4325
Whosoever G3739 G302 therefore G1063 shall be ashamed G1870 of me G3165 and G2532 of my G1699 words G3056 in G1722 this G5026 adulterous G3428 and G2532 sinful G268 generation; G1074 of him G846 also G2532 shall G1870 the Son G5207 of man G444 be ashamed, G1870 when G3752 he cometh G2064 in G1722 the glory G1391 of his G846 Father G3962 with G3326 the holy G40 angels. G32
For G1063 whosoever G3739 G302 shall be ashamed G1870 of me G3165 and G2532 of my G1699 words, G3056 of him G5126 shall G1870 the Son G5207 of man G444 be ashamed, G1870 when G3752 he shall come G2064 in G1722 his own G846 glory, G1391 and G2532 in his Father's, G3962 and G2532 of the holy G40 angels. Commentary on Genesis 2 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 2
This chapter is an appendix to the history of the creation, more particularly explaining and enlarging upon that part of the history which relates immediately to man, the favourite of this lower world. We have in it,
Gen 2:1-3
We have here,
Gen 2:4-7
In these verses,
Gen 2:8-15
Man consisting of body and soul, a body made out of the earth and a rational immortal soul the breath of heaven, we have, in these verses, the provision that was made for the happiness of both; he that made him took care to make him happy, if he could but have kept himself so and known when he was well off. That part of man by which he is allied to the world of sense was made happy; for he was put in the paradise of God: that part by which he is allied to the world of spirits was well provided for; for he was taken into covenant with God. Lord, what is man that he should be thus dignified-man that is a worm! Here we have,
Gen 2:16-17
Observe here,
Thus easy, thus happy, was man in a state of innocency, having all that heart could wish to make him so. How good was God to him! How many favours did he load him with! How easy were the laws he gave him! How kind the covenant he made with him! Yet man, being in honour, understood not his own interest, but soon became as the beasts that perish.
