8 Then said H559 Hezekiah H2396 to Isaiah, H3470 Good H2896 is the word H1697 of the LORD H3068 which thou hast spoken. H1696 He said H559 moreover, For there shall be peace H7965 and truth H571 in my days. H3117
Notwithstanding Hezekiah H3169 humbled H3665 himself for the pride H1363 of his heart, H3820 both he and the inhabitants H3427 of Jerusalem, H3389 so that the wrath H7110 of the LORD H3068 came H935 not upon them in the days H3117 of Hezekiah. H3169
Behold, I will gather H622 thee to thy fathers, H1 and thou shalt be gathered H622 to thy grave H6913 in peace, H7965 neither shall thine eyes H5869 see H7200 all the evil H7451 that I will bring H935 upon this place, H4725 and upon the inhabitants H3427 of the same. So they brought H7725 the king H4428 word H1697 again. H7725
And Samuel H8050 told H5046 him every whit, H1697 and hid H3582 nothing from him. And he said, H559 It is the LORD: H3068 let him do H6213 what seemeth H5869 him good. H2896
I was dumb, H481 I opened H6605 not my mouth; H6310 because thou didst H6213 it.
These are the things H1697 that ye shall do; H6213 Speak H1696 ye every man H376 the truth H571 to his neighbour; H7453 execute H8199 the judgment H4941 of truth H571 and peace H7965 in your gates: H8179
Thus saith H559 the LORD H3068 of hosts; H6635 The fast H6685 of the fourth H7243 month, and the fast H6685 of the fifth, H2549 and the fast H6685 of the seventh, H7637 and the fast H6685 of the tenth, H6224 shall be to the house H1004 of Judah H3063 joy H8342 and gladness, H8057 and cheerful H2896 feasts; H4150 therefore love H157 the truth H571 and peace. Commentary on Isaiah 39 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 39
The story of this chapter likewise we had before, 2 Ki. 20:12, etc. It is here repeated, not only as a very memorable and improvable passage, but because it concludes with a prophecy of the captivity in Babylon; and as the former part of the prophecy of this book frequently referred to Sennacherib's invasion and the defeat of that, to which therefore the history of that was very fitly subjoined, so the latter part of this book speaks much of the Jews' captivity in Babylon and their deliverance out of that, to which therefore the first prediction of it, with the occasion thereof, is very fitly prefixed. We have here,
Isa 39:1-4
Hence we may learn these lessons:-
Isa 39:5-8
Hence let us observe,
