19 Wherefore, G5620 my G3450 beloved G27 brethren, G80 let G2077 every G3956 man G444 be G2077 swift G5036 to G1519 hear, G191 slow G1021 to G1519 speak, G2980 slow G1021 to G1519 wrath: G3709
Keep H8104 thy foot H7272 when thou goest H3212 to the house H1004 of God, H430 and be more ready H7138 to hear, H8085 than to give H5414 the sacrifice H2077 of fools: H3684 for they consider H3045 not that they do H6213 evil. H7451 Be not rash H926 with thy mouth, H6310 and let not thine heart H3820 be hasty H4116 to utter H3318 any thing H1697 before H6440 God: H430 for God H430 is in heaven, H8064 and thou upon earth: H776 therefore let thy words H1697 be few. H4592 For a dream H2472 cometh H935 through the multitude H7230 of business; H6045 and a fool's H3684 voice H6963 is known by multitude H7230 of words. H1697
Better H2896 is the end H319 of a thing H1697 than the beginning H7225 thereof: and the patient H750 in spirit H7307 is better H2896 than the proud H1362 in spirit. H7307 Be not hasty H926 in thy spirit H7307 to be angry: H3707 for anger H3708 resteth H5117 in the bosom H2436 of fools. H3684
My G3450 brethren, G80 be G1096 not G3361 many G4183 masters, G1320 knowing G1492 that G3754 we shall receive G2983 the greater G3187 condemnation. G2917 For G1063 in many things G4183 we offend G4417 all. G537 If any man G1536 offend G4417 not G3756 in G1722 word, G3056 the same G3778 is a perfect G5046 man, G435 and able G1415 also G2532 to bridle G5468 the whole G3650 body. G4983
And G1161 when the Jews G2453 were gone G1826 out of G1537 the synagogue, G4864 the Gentiles G1484 besought G3870 that these G5023 words G4487 might be preached G2980 to them G846 G1519 the next G3342 sabbath. G4521 Now G1161 when the congregation G4864 was broken up, G3089 many G4183 of the Jews G2453 and G2532 religious G4576 proselytes G4339 followed G190 Paul G3972 and G2532 Barnabas: G921 who, G3748 speaking G4354 to them, G846 persuaded G3982 them G846 to continue G1961 in the grace G5485 of God. G2316 And G1161 the next G2064 sabbath day G4521 came G4863 almost G4975 the whole G3956 city G4172 together G4863 to hear G191 the word G3056 of God. G2316
Now therefore hearken H8085 unto me, O ye children: H1121 for blessed H835 are they that keep H8104 my ways. H1870 Hear H8085 instruction, H4148 and be wise, H2449 and refuse H6544 it not. Blessed H835 is the man H120 that heareth H8085 me, watching H8245 daily H3117 H3117 at my gates, H1817 waiting H8104 at the posts H4201 of my doors. H6607 For whoso findeth H4672 me findeth H4672 H4672 life, H2416 and shall obtain H6329 favour H7522 of the LORD. H3068
And Ezra H5830 the priest H3548 brought H935 the law H8451 before H6440 the congregation H6951 both of men H376 and women, H802 and all that could hear H8085 with understanding, H995 upon the first H259 day H3117 of the seventh H7637 month. H2320 And he read H7121 therein before H6440 the street H7339 that was before H6440 the water H4325 gate H8179 from the morning H216 until midday, H4276 H3117 before the men H582 and the women, H802 and those that could understand; H995 and the ears H241 of all the people H5971 were attentive unto the book H5612 of the law. H8451
Idolatry, G1495 witchcraft, G5331 hatred, G2189 variance, G2054 emulations, G2205 wrath, G2372 strife, G2052 seditions, G1370 heresies, G139 Envyings, G5355 murders, G5408 drunkenness, G3178 revellings, G2970 and G2532 such G5125 like: G3664 of the which G3739 I tell G4302 you G5213 before, G4302 as G2531 I have G4277 also G2532 told you in time past, G4277 that G3754 they which do G4238 such things G5108 shall G2816 not G3756 inherit G2816 the kingdom G932 of God. G2316
And all the people H5971 went their way H3212 to eat, H398 and to drink, H8354 and to send H7971 portions, H4490 and to make H6213 great H1419 mirth, H8057 because they had understood H995 the words H1697 that were declared H3045 unto them. And on the second H8145 day H3117 were gathered together H622 the chief H7218 of the fathers H1 of all the people, H5971 the priests, H3548 and the Levites, H3881 unto Ezra H5830 the scribe, H5608 even to understand H7919 the words H1697 of the law. H8451 And they found H4672 written H3789 in the law H8451 which the LORD H3068 had commanded H6680 by H3027 Moses, H4872 that the children H1121 of Israel H3478 should dwell H3427 in booths H5521 in the feast H2282 of the seventh H7637 month: H2320

Commentary on James 1 Matthew Henry Commentary
An Exposition, With Practical Observations, of
The General Epistle of James
Chapter 1
After the inscription and salutation (v. 1) Christians are taught how to conduct themselves when under the cross. Several graces and duties are recommended; and those who endure their trials and afflictions as the apostle here directs are pronounced blessed and are assured of a glorious reward (v. 2-12). But those sins which bring sufferings, or the weakness and faults men are chargeable with under them, are by no means to be imputed to God, who cannot be the author of sin, but is the author of all good (v. 13-18). All passion, and rash anger, and vile affections, ought to be suppressed. The word of God should be made our chief study: and what we hear and know of it we must take care to practise, otherwise our religion will prove but a vain thing. To this is added an account wherein pure religion consists (v. 19-27).
