25 But G1161 whoso looketh G3879 into G1519 the perfect G5046 law G3551 of liberty, G1657 and G2532 continueth G3887 therein, he G3778 being G1096 not G3756 a forgetful G1953 hearer, G202 but G235 a doer G4163 of the work, G2041 this man G3778 shall be G2071 blessed G3107 in G1722 his G846 deed. G4162
Now G1161 the Lord G2962 is G2076 that Spirit: G4151 and G1161 where G3757 the Spirit G4151 of the Lord G2962 is, there G1563 is liberty. G1657 But G1161 we G2249 all, G3956 with open G343 face G4383 beholding as in a glass G2734 the glory G1391 of the Lord, G2962 are changed G3339 into the same G846 image G1504 from G575 glory G1391 to G1519 glory, G1391 even as G2509 by G575 the Spirit G4151 of the Lord. G2962
For G1063 I delight G4913 in the law G3551 of God G2316 after G2596 the inward G2080 man: G444 But G1161 I see G991 another G2087 law G3551 in G1722 my G3450 members, G3196 warring against G497 the law G3551 of my G3450 mind, G3563 and G2532 bringing G163 me G3165 into captivity G163 to the law G3551 of sin G266 which G3588 is G5607 in G1722 my G3450 members. G3196
For G3754 if any G1536 be G2076 a hearer G202 of the word, G3056 and G2532 not G3756 a doer, G4163 he G3778 is like G1503 unto a man G435 beholding G2657 his G846 natural G1078 face G4383 in G1722 a glass: G2072 For G1063 he beholdeth G2657 himself, G1438 and G2532 goeth his way, G565 and G2532 straightway G2112 forgetteth G1950 what manner of man G3697 he was. G2258
Whosoever G3956 cometh G2064 to G4314 me, G3165 and G2532 heareth G191 my G3450 sayings, G3056 and G2532 doeth G4160 them, G846 I will shew G5263 you G5213 to whom G5101 he is G2076 like: G3664 He is G2076 like G3664 a man G444 which G3739 built G3618 an house, G3614 and G2532 digged G4626 deep, G900 and G2532 laid G5087 the foundation G2310 on G1909 a rock: G4073 and G1161 when the flood G4132 arose, G1096 the stream G4215 beat vehemently G4366 upon that G1565 house, G3614 and G2532 could G2480 not G3756 shake G4531 it: G846 for G1063 it was founded G2311 upon G1909 a rock. G4073 But G1161 he that heareth, G191 and G2532 doeth G4160 not, G3361 is G2076 like G3664 a man G444 that without G5565 a foundation G2310 built G3618 an house G3614 upon G1909 the earth; G1093 against G4366 which G3739 the stream G4215 did beat vehemently, G4366 and G2532 immediately G2112 it fell; G4098 and G2532 the ruin G4485 of that G1565 house G3614 was G1096 great. G3173
The law H8451 of the LORD H3068 is perfect, H8549 converting H7725 the soul: H5315 the testimony H5715 of the LORD H3068 is sure, H539 making wise H2449 the simple. H6612 The statutes H6490 of the LORD H3068 are right, H3477 rejoicing H8055 the heart: H3820 the commandment H4687 of the LORD H3068 is pure, H1249 enlightening H215 the eyes. H5869 The fear H3374 of the LORD H3068 is clean, H2889 enduring H5975 for ever: H5703 the judgments H4941 of the LORD H3068 are true H571 and righteous H6663 altogether. H3162 More to be desired H2530 are they than gold, H2091 yea, than much H7227 fine gold: H6337 sweeter H4966 also than honey H1706 and the honeycomb. H5317 H6688 Moreover by them is thy servant H5650 warned: H2094 and in keeping H8104 of them there is great H7227 reward. H6118
I have seen H7200 an end H7093 of all perfection: H8502 but thy commandment H4687 is exceeding H3966 broad. H7342 MEM. O how love I H157 thy law! H8451 it is my meditation H7881 all the day. H3117 Thou through thy commandments H4687 hast made me wiser H2449 than mine enemies: H341 for they are ever H5769 with me. I have more understanding H7919 than all my teachers: H3925 for thy testimonies H5715 are my meditation. H7881 I understand H995 more than the ancients, H2205 because I keep H5341 thy precepts. H6490 I have refrained H3607 my feet H7272 from every evil H7451 way, H734 that I might keep H8104 thy word. H1697 I have not departed H5493 from thy judgments: H4941 for thou hast taught H3384 me. How sweet H4452 are thy words H565 unto my taste! H2441 yea, sweeter than honey H1706 to my mouth! H6310 Through thy precepts H6490 I get understanding: H995 therefore I hate H8130 every false H8267 way. H734 NUN. Thy word H1697 is a lamp H5216 unto my feet, H7272 and a light H216 unto my path. H5410
Then G3767 said G3004 Jesus G2424 to G4314 those Jews G2453 which G3588 believed G4100 on him, G846 If G1437 ye G5210 continue G3306 in G1722 my G1699 word, G3056 then are ye G2075 my G3450 disciples G3101 indeed; G230 And G2532 ye shall know G1097 the truth, G225 and G2532 the truth G225 shall make G1659 you G5209 free. G1659
As G2531 the Father G3962 hath loved G25 me, G3165 so G2504 have G25 I G2504 loved G25 you: G5209 continue ye G3306 in G1722 my G1699 love. G26 If G1437 ye keep G5083 my G3450 commandments, G1785 ye shall abide G3306 in G1722 my G3450 love; G26 even as G2531 I G1473 have kept G5083 my G3450 Father's G3962 commandments, G1785 and G2532 abide G3306 in G1722 his G846 love. G26
To them who by G3303 G2596 patient continuance G5281 in well G18 doing G2041 seek G2212 for glory G1391 and G2532 honour G5092 and G2532 immortality, G861 eternal G166 life: G2222 But G1161 unto them that are contentious, G1537 G2052 and G2532 do not obey G544 G3303 the truth, G225 but G1161 obey G3982 unrighteousness, G93 indignation G2372 and G2532 wrath, G3709

Commentary on James 1 Matthew Henry Commentary
An Exposition, With Practical Observations, of
The General Epistle of James
Chapter 1
After the inscription and salutation (v. 1) Christians are taught how to conduct themselves when under the cross. Several graces and duties are recommended; and those who endure their trials and afflictions as the apostle here directs are pronounced blessed and are assured of a glorious reward (v. 2-12). But those sins which bring sufferings, or the weakness and faults men are chargeable with under them, are by no means to be imputed to God, who cannot be the author of sin, but is the author of all good (v. 13-18). All passion, and rash anger, and vile affections, ought to be suppressed. The word of God should be made our chief study: and what we hear and know of it we must take care to practise, otherwise our religion will prove but a vain thing. To this is added an account wherein pure religion consists (v. 19-27).
