20 But Jeremiah H3414 said, H559 They shall not deliver H5414 thee. Obey, H8085 I beseech thee, the voice H6963 of the LORD, H3068 which I speak H1696 unto thee: so it shall be well H3190 unto thee, and thy soul H5315 shall live. H2421
Incline H5186 your ear, H241 and come H3212 unto me: hear, H8085 and your soul H5315 shall live; H2421 and I will make H3772 an everlasting H5769 covenant H1285 with you, even the sure H539 mercies H2617 of David. H1732
And they rose early H7925 in the morning, H1242 and went forth H3318 into the wilderness H4057 of Tekoa: H8620 and as they went forth, H3318 Jehoshaphat H3092 stood H5975 and said, H559 Hear H8085 me, O Judah, H3063 and ye inhabitants H3427 of Jerusalem; H3389 Believe H539 in the LORD H3068 your God, H430 so shall ye be established; H539 believe H539 his prophets, H5030 so shall ye prosper. H6743
Wherefore, H3861 O king, H4430 let my counsel H4431 be acceptable H8232 unto thee, H5922 and break off H6562 thy sins H2408 by righteousness, H6665 and thine iniquities H5758 by shewing mercy H2604 to the poor; H6033 if H2006 it may be H1934 a lengthening H754 of thy tranquillity. H7963
And G1161 Paul G3972 said, G2036 I would G302 G2172 to God, G2316 that not G3756 only G3440 thou, G4571 but G235 also G2532 all G3956 that hear G191 me G3450 this day, G4594 were G1096 both G2532 almost, G1722 G3641 and G2532 altogether G1722 G4183 such G5108 as G3697 G2504 I am, G1510 except G3924 these G5130 bonds. G1199
Which I commanded H6680 your fathers H1 in the day H3117 that I brought them forth H3318 out of the land H776 of Egypt, H4714 from the iron H1270 furnace, H3564 saying, H559 Obey H8085 my voice, H6963 and do H6213 them, according to all which I command H6680 you: so shall ye be my people, H5971 and I will be your God: H430
Knowing G1492 therefore G3767 the terror G5401 of the Lord, G2962 we persuade G3982 men; G444 but G1161 we are made manifest G5319 unto God; G2316 and G1161 I trust G1679 also G2532 are made manifest G5319 in G1722 your G5216 consciences. G4893
Wherefore, G1352 though I might be G2192 much G4183 bold G3954 in G1722 Christ G5547 to enjoin G2004 thee G4671 that which is convenient, G433 Yet for G1223 love's G26 sake I G3870 rather G3123 beseech G3870 thee, being G5607 such an one G5108 as G5613 Paul G3972 the aged, G4246 and G1161 now G3570 also G2532 a prisoner G1198 of Jesus G2424 Christ. G5547 I beseech G3870 thee G4571 for G4012 my G1699 son G5043 Onesimus, G3682 whom G3739 I have begotten G1080 in G1722 my G3450 bonds: G1199

Commentary on Jeremiah 38 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 38
In this chapter, just as in the former, we have Jeremiah greatly debased under the frowns of the princes, and yet greatly honoured by the favour of the king. They used him as a criminal; he used him as a privy-counsellor. Here,
Jer 38:1-13
Here,
Jer 38:14-28
In the foregoing chapter we had the king in close conference with Jeremiah, and here again, though (v. 5) he had given him up into the hands of his enemies; such a struggle there was in the breast of this unhappy prince between his convictions and his corruptions. Observe,
