33 For thus saith H559 the LORD H3068 of hosts, H6635 the God H430 of Israel; H3478 The daughter H1323 of Babylon H894 is like a threshingfloor, H1637 it is time H6256 to thresh H1869 her: yet a little while, H4592 and the time H6256 of her harvest H7105 shall come. H935
Behold, I will make H7760 thee a new H2319 sharp H2742 threshing H4173 instrument having H1167 teeth: H6374 thou shalt thresh H1758 the mountains, H2022 and beat them small, H1854 and shalt make H7760 the hills H1389 as chaff. H4671 Thou shalt fan H2219 them, and the wind H7307 shall carry them away, H5375 and the whirlwind H5591 shall scatter H6327 them: and thou shalt rejoice H1523 in the LORD, H3068 and shalt glory H1984 in the Holy One H6918 of Israel. H3478
And it shall be as when the harvestman H7105 gathereth H622 the corn, H7054 and reapeth H7114 the ears H7641 with his arm; H2220 and it shall be as he that gathereth H3950 ears H7641 in the valley H6010 of Rephaim. H7497 Yet gleaning grapes H5955 shall be left H7604 in it, as the shaking H5363 of an olive tree, H2132 two H8147 or three H7969 berries H1620 in the top H7218 of the uppermost bough, H534 four H702 or five H2568 in the outmost fruitful H6509 branches H5585 thereof, saith H5002 the LORD H3068 God H430 of Israel. H3478 At that day H3117 shall a man H120 look H8159 to his Maker, H6213 and his eyes H5869 shall have respect H7200 to the Holy H6918 One of Israel. H3478 And he shall not look H8159 to the altars, H4196 the work H4639 of his hands, H3027 neither shall respect H7200 that which his fingers H676 have made, H6213 either the groves, H842 or the images. H2553 In that day H3117 shall his strong H4581 cities H5892 be as a forsaken H5800 bough, H2793 and an uppermost branch, H534 which they left H5800 because H6440 of the children H1121 of Israel: H3478 and there shall be desolation. H8077 Because thou hast forgotten H7911 the God H430 of thy salvation, H3468 and hast not been mindful H2142 of the rock H6697 of thy strength, H4581 therefore shalt thou plant H5193 pleasant H5282 plants, H5194 and shalt set H2232 it with strange H2114 slips: H2156 In the day H3117 shalt thou make thy plant H5194 to grow, H7735 and in the morning H1242 shalt thou make thy seed H2233 to flourish: H6524 but the harvest H7105 shall be a heap H5067 in the day H3117 of grief H2470 and of desperate H605 sorrow. H3511
And G2532 another G243 angel G32 came G1831 out of G1537 the temple, G3485 crying G2896 with G1722 a loud G3173 voice G5456 to him that sat G2521 on G1909 the cloud, G3507 Thrust in G3992 thy G4675 sickle, G1407 and G2532 reap: G2325 for G3754 the time G5610 is come G2064 for thee G4671 to reap; G2325 for G3754 the harvest G2326 of the earth G1093 is ripe. G3583 And G2532 he that sat G2521 on G1909 the cloud G3507 thrust in G906 his G846 sickle G1407 on G1909 the earth; G1093 and G2532 the earth G1093 was reaped. G2325 And G2532 another G243 angel G32 came G1831 out of G1537 the temple G3485 which G3588 is in G1722 heaven, G3772 he G846 also G2532 having G2192 a sharp G3691 sickle. G1407 And G2532 another G243 angel G32 came G1831 out G1537 from the altar, G2379 which had G2192 power G1849 over G1909 fire; G4442 and G2532 cried G5455 with a loud G3173 cry G2906 to him that had G2192 the sharp G3691 sickle, G1407 saying, G3004 Thrust in G3992 thy G4675 sharp G3691 sickle, G1407 and G2532 gather G5166 the clusters G1009 of the vine G288 of the earth; G1093 for G3754 her G846 grapes G4718 are fully ripe. G187 And G2532 the angel G32 thrust in G906 his G846 sickle G1407 into G1519 the earth, G1093 and G2532 gathered G5166 the vine G288 of the earth, G1093 and G2532 cast G906 it into G1519 the great G3173 winepress G3025 of the wrath G2372 of God. G2316 And G2532 the winepress G3025 was trodden G3961 without G1854 the city, G4172 and G2532 blood G129 came G1831 out of G1537 the winepress, G3025 even unto G891 the horse G2462 bridles, G5469 by the space of G575 a thousand G5507 and six hundred G1812 furlongs. Commentary on Jeremiah 51 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 51
The prophet, in this chapter, goes on with the prediction of Babylon's fall, to which other prophets also bore witness. He is very copious and lively in describing the foresight God had given him of it, for the encouragement of the pious captives, whose deliverance depended upon it and was to be the result of it. Here is,
Jer 51:1-58
The particulars of this copious prophecy are dispersed and interwoven, and the same things left and returned to so often that it could not well be divided into parts, but we must endeavor to collect them under their proper heads. Let us then observe here,
Jer 51:59-64
We have been long attending the judgment of Babylon in this and the foregoing chapter; now here we have the conclusion of that whole matter.
