1 Now G1161 a certain G5100 man was G2258 sick, G770 named Lazarus, G2976 of G575 Bethany, G963 G1537 the town G2968 of Mary G3137 and G2532 her G846 sister G79 Martha. G3136
In those days H3117 was Hezekiah H2396 sick H2470 unto death. H4191 And the prophet H5030 Isaiah H3470 the son H1121 of Amoz H531 came H935 to him, and said H559 unto him, Thus saith H559 the LORD, H3068 Set thine house H1004 in order; H6680 for thou shalt die, H4191 and not live. H2421 Then he turned H5437 his face H6440 to the wall, H7023 and prayed H6419 unto the LORD, H3068 saying, H559 I beseech H577 thee, O LORD, H3068 remember H2142 now how I have walked H1980 before H6440 thee in truth H571 and with a perfect H8003 heart, H3824 and have done H6213 that which is good H2896 in thy sight. H5869 And Hezekiah H2396 wept H1058 H1065 sore. H1419 And it came to pass, afore Isaiah H3470 was gone out H3318 into the middle H8484 court, H2691 H5892 that the word H1697 of the LORD H3068 came to him, saying, H559 Turn again, H7725 and tell H559 Hezekiah H2396 the captain H5057 of my people, H5971 Thus saith H559 the LORD, H3068 the God H430 of David H1732 thy father, H1 I have heard H8085 thy prayer, H8605 I have seen H7200 thy tears: H1832 behold, I will heal H7495 thee: on the third H7992 day H3117 thou shalt go up H5927 unto the house H1004 of the LORD. H3068 And I will add H3254 unto thy days H3117 fifteen H2568 H6240 years; H8141 and I will deliver H5337 thee and this city H5892 out of the hand H3709 of the king H4428 of Assyria; H804 and I will defend H1598 this city H5892 for mine own sake, and for my servant H5650 David's H1732 sake. And Isaiah H3470 said, H559 Take H3947 a lump H1690 of figs. H8384 And they took H3947 and laid H7760 it on the boil, H7822 and he recovered. H2421 And Hezekiah H2396 said H559 unto Isaiah, H3470 What shall be the sign H226 that the LORD H3068 will heal H7495 me, and that I shall go up H5927 into the house H1004 of the LORD H3068 the third H7992 day? H3117 And Isaiah H3470 said, H559 This sign H226 shalt thou have of the LORD, H3068 that the LORD H3068 will do H6213 the thing H1697 that he hath spoken: H1696 shall the shadow H6738 go forward H1980 ten H6235 degrees, H4609 or go back H7725 ten H6235 degrees? H4609 And Hezekiah H3169 answered, H559 It is a light thing H7043 for the shadow H6738 to go down H5186 ten H6235 degrees: H4609 nay, but let the shadow H6738 return H7725 backward H322 ten H6235 degrees. H4609 And Isaiah H3470 the prophet H5030 cried H7121 unto the LORD: H3068 and he brought H7725 the shadow H6738 ten H6235 degrees H4609 backward, H322 by H4609 which it had gone down H3381 in the dial H4609 of Ahaz. H271 At that time H6256 Berodachbaladan, H1255 the son H1121 of Baladan, H1081 king H4428 of Babylon, H894 sent H7971 letters H5612 and a present H4503 unto Hezekiah: H2396 for he had heard H8085 that Hezekiah H2396 had been sick. H2470
Now G1161 it came to pass, G1096 as G1722 they G846 went, G4198 that G2532 he G846 entered G1525 into G1519 a certain G5100 village: G2968 and G1161 a certain G5100 woman G1135 named G3686 Martha G3136 received G5264 him G846 into G1519 her G846 house. G3624 And G2532 she G3592 had G2258 a sister G79 called G2564 Mary, G3137 which G3739 also G2532 sat G3869 at G3844 Jesus' G2424 feet, G4228 and heard G191 his G846 word. G3056 But G1161 Martha G3136 was cumbered G4049 about G4012 much G4183 serving, G1248 and G1161 came to him, G2186 and said, G2036 Lord, G2962 dost G3199 thou G4671 not G3756 care G3199 that G3754 my G3450 sister G79 hath left G2641 me G3165 to serve G1247 alone? G3441 bid G2036 her G846 therefore G3767 that G2443 she help G4878 me. G3427 And G1161 Jesus G2424 answered G611 and said G2036 unto her, G846 Martha, G3136 Martha, G3136 thou art careful G3309 and G2532 troubled G5182 about G4012 many things: G4183 But G1161 one thing G1520 is G2076 needful: G5532 and G1161 Mary G3137 hath chosen G1586 that good G18 part, G3310 which G3748 shall G851 not G3756 be taken away G851 from G575 her. G846
And G1161 there was G2258 a certain G5100 beggar G4434 named G3686 Lazarus, G2976 which G3739 was laid G906 at G4314 his G846 gate, G4440 full of sores, G1669 And G2532 desiring G1937 to be fed G5526 with G575 the crumbs G5589 which G3588 fell G4098 from G575 the rich man's G4145 table: G5132 moreover G235 G2532 the dogs G2965 came G2064 and licked G621 his G846 sores. G1668 And G1161 it came to pass, G1096 that the beggar G4434 died, G599 and G2532 was carried G667 by G5259 the angels G32 into G1519 Abraham's G11 bosom: G2859 the rich man G4145 also G1161 G2532 died, G599 and G2532 was buried; G2290 And G2532 in G1722 hell G86 he lift up G1869 his G846 eyes, G3788 being G5225 in G1722 torments, G931 and seeth G3708 Abraham G11 afar G3113 off, G575 and G2532 Lazarus G2976 in G1722 his G846 bosom. G2859 And G2532 G846 he cried G5455 and said, G2036 Father G3962 Abraham, G11 have mercy G1653 on me, G3165 and G2532 send G3992 Lazarus, G2976 that G2443 he may dip G911 the tip G206 of his G846 finger G1147 in water, G5204 and G2532 cool G2711 my G3450 tongue; G1100 for G3754 I am tormented G3600 in G1722 this G5026 flame. G5395 But G1161 Abraham G11 said, G2036 Son, G5043 remember G3415 that G3754 thou G4771 in G1722 thy G4675 lifetime G2222 receivedst G618 thy G4675 good things, G18 and G2532 likewise G3668 Lazarus G2976 evil things: G2556 but G1161 now G3568 G3592 he is comforted, G3870 and G1161 thou G4771 art tormented. G3600
Now G1161 Jesus G2424 loved G25 Martha, G3136 and G2532 her G846 sister, G79 and G2532 Lazarus. G2976 When G5613 he had heard G191 therefore G3767 that G3754 he was sick, G770 he abode G3306 two G1417 days G2250 still G5119 G3303 in G1722 the same place G5117 where G3739 he was. G2258
Then G3767 Jesus G2424 six G1803 days G2250 before G4253 the passover G3957 came G2064 to G1519 Bethany, G963 where G3699 Lazarus G2976 was G2258 which G3588 had been dead, G2348 whom G3739 he raised G1453 from G1537 the dead. G3498 There G1563 G3767 they made G4160 him G846 a supper; G1173 and G2532 Martha G3136 served: G1247 but G1161 Lazarus G2976 was G2258 one G1520 of them that sat at the table G4873 with him. G846

Commentary on John 11 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 11
In this chapter we have the history of that illustrious miracle which Christ wrought a little before his death-the raising of Lazarus to life, which is recorded only by this evangelist; for the other three confine themselves to what Christ did in Galilee, where he resided most, and scarcely ever carried their history into Jerusalem till the passion-week: whereas John's memoirs relate chiefly to what passed at Jerusalem; this passage therefore was reserved for his pen. Some suggest that, when the other evangelists wrote, Lazarus was alive, and it would not well agree either with his safety or with his humility to have it recorded till now, when it is supposed he was dead. It is more largely recorded than any other of Christ's miracles, not only because there are many circumstances of it so very instructive and the miracle of itself so great a proof of Christ's mission, but because it was an earnest of that which was to be the crowning proof of all-Christ's own resurrection. Here is,

We have in these verses,
Jhn 11:17-32
The matter being determined, that Christ will go to Judea, and his disciples with him, they address themselves to their journey; in this journey some circumstances happened which the other evangelists record, as the healing of the blind man at Jericho, and the conversion of Zaccheus. We must not reckon ourselves out of our way, while we are in the way of doing good; nor be so intent upon one good office as to neglect another.
At length, he comes near to Bethany, which is said to be about fifteen furlongs from Jerusalem, about two measured miles, v. 18. Notice is taken of this, that this miracle was in effect wrought in Jerusalem, and so was put to her score. Christ's miracles in Galilee were more numerous, but those in or near Jerusalem were more illustrious; there he healed one that had been diseased thirty-eight years, another that had been blind from his birth, and raised one that had been dead four days. To Bethany Christ came, and observe,

Here we have,
Jhn 11:45-57
We have here an account of the consequences of this glorious miracle, which were as usual; to some it was a savour of life unto life, to others of death unto death.
