6 And G1161 he said G2036 unto them, G846 Cast G906 the net G1350 on G1519 the right G1188 side G3313 of the ship, G4143 and G2532 ye shall find. G2147 They cast G906 therefore, G3767 and G2532 now G3765 they were G2480 not G3765 able G2480 to draw G1670 it G846 for G575 the multitude G4128 of fishes. G2486
Now G1161 when G5613 he had left G3973 speaking, G2980 he said G2036 unto G4314 Simon, G4613 Launch out G1877 into G1519 the deep, G899 and G2532 let down G5465 your G5216 nets G1350 for G1519 a draught. G61 And G2532 Simon G4613 answering G611 said G2036 unto him, G846 Master, G1988 we have toiled G2872 all G3650 G1223 the night, G3571 and have taken G2983 nothing: G3762 nevertheless G1161 at G1909 thy G4675 word G4487 I will let down G5465 the net. G1350 And G2532 when they had G4160 this G5124 done, G4160 they inclosed G4788 a great G4183 multitude G4128 of fishes: G2486 and G1161 their G846 net G1350 brake. G1284 And G2532 they beckoned G2656 unto their partners, G3353 which G3588 were in G1722 the other G2087 ship, G4143 that they should come G2064 and help G4815 them. G846 And G2532 they came, G2064 and G2532 filled G4130 both G297 the ships, G4143 so G5620 that they G846 began to sink. G1036
But G1161 one G5100 in a certain place G4225 testified, G1263 saying, G3004 What G5101 is G2076 man, G444 that G3754 thou art mindful G3403 of him? G846 or G2228 the son G5207 of man, G444 that G3754 thou visitest G1980 him? G846 Thou madest G1642 him G846 a little G1024 G5100 lower G1642 than G3844 the angels; G32 thou crownedst G4737 him G846 with glory G1391 and G2532 honour, G5092 and G2532 didst set G2525 him G846 over G1909 the works G2041 of thy G4675 hands: G5495 Thou hast put G5293 all things G3956 in subjection G5293 under G5270 his G846 feet. G4228 For G1063 in G1722 that he put G5293 all G3956 in subjection under G5293 him, G846 he left G863 nothing that is not G3762 put under G506 him. G846 But G1161 now G3568 we see G3708 not yet G3768 all things G3956 put under G5293 him. G846 But G1161 we see G991 Jesus, G2424 who G3588 was made G1642 a little G1024 G5100 lower G1642 than G3844 the angels G32 for G1223 the suffering G3804 of death, G2288 crowned G4737 with glory G1391 and G2532 honour; G5092 that G3704 he G1089 by the grace G5485 of God G2316 should taste G1089 death G2288 for G5228 every man. Commentary on John 21 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 21
The evangelist seemed to have concluded his history with the foregoing chapter; but (as St. Paul sometimes in his epistles), new matter occurring, he begins again. He had said that there were many other signs which Jesus did for the proof of his resurrection. And in this chapter he mentions one of these many, which was Christ's appearance to some of his disciples at the sea of Tiberias, in which we have an account,
It is strange that any should suppose that this chapter was added by some other hand, when it is expressly said (v. 24) that the disciple whom Jesus loved is he which testifieth of these things.
Jhn 21:1-14
We have here an account of Christ's appearance to his disciples at the sea of Tiberias. Now,
The evangelist leaves them at dinner, and makes this remark (v. 14): This is now the third time that Jesus showed himself alive to his disciples, or the greater part of them. This is the third day; so some. On the day he rose he appeared five times; the second day was that day seven-night; and this was the third. Or this was his third appearance to any considerable number of his disciples together; though he had appeared to Mary, to the women, to the two disciples, and to Cephas, yet he had but twice before this appeared to any company of them together. This is taken notice of,
Jhn 21:15-19
We have here Christ's discourse with Peter after dinner, so much of it as relates to himself, in which,
Jhn 21:20-25
In these verses, we have,
The evangelist, concluding with Amen, thereby sets to his seal, and let us set to ours, an Amen of faith, subscribing to the gospel, that it is true, all true; and an Amen of satisfaction in what is written, as able to make us wise to salvation. Amen; so be it.
