15 When Jesus G2424 therefore G3767 perceived G1097 that G3754 they would G3195 come G2064 and G2532 take G726 him G846 by force, G726 to G2443 make G4160 him G846 a king, G935 he departed G402 again G3825 into G1519 a mountain G3735 himself G846 alone. G3441
When Jesus G2424 therefore G3767 perceived G1097 that G3754 they would G3195 come G2064 and G2532 take G726 him G846 by force, G726 to G2443 make G4160 him G846 a king, G935 he departed G402 again G3825 into G1519 a mountain G3735 himself G846 alone. G3441 And G1161 when G5613 even G3798 was now come, G1096 his G846 disciples G3101 went down G2597 unto G1909 the sea, G2281 And G2532 entered G1684 into G1519 a ship, G4143 and went G2064 over G4008 the sea G2281 toward G1519 Capernaum. G2584 And G2532 it was G1096 now G2235 dark, G4653 and G2532 Jesus G2424 was G2064 not G3756 come G2064 to G4314 them. G846 And G5037 the sea G2281 arose G1326 by reason of a great G3173 wind G417 that blew. G4154 So G3767 when they had rowed G1643 about G5613 five G4002 and twenty G1501 or G2228 thirty G5144 furlongs, G4712 they see G2334 Jesus G2424 walking G4043 on G1909 the sea, G2281 and G2532 drawing G1096 nigh G1451 unto the ship: G4143 and G2532 they were afraid. G5399 But G1161 he saith G3004 unto them, G846 It is G1510 I; G1473 be G5399 not G3361 afraid. G5399 Then G3767 they willingly G2309 received G2983 him G846 into G1519 the ship: G4143 and G2532 immediately G2112 the ship G4143 was G1096 at G1909 the land G1093 whither G1519 G3739 they went. G5217
His G846 brethren G80 therefore G3767 said G2036 unto G4314 him, G846 Depart G3327 hence, G1782 and G2532 go G5217 into G1519 Judaea, G2449 that G2443 thy G4675 disciples G3101 also G2532 may see G2334 the works G2041 that G3739 thou G4675 doest. G4160 For G1063 there is no man G3762 that doeth G4160 any thing G5100 in G1722 secret, G2927 and G2532 he himself G846 seeketh G2212 to be G1511 known openly. G1722 G3954 If G1487 thou do G4160 these things, G5023 shew G5319 thyself G4572 to the world. G2889
And G2532 straightway G2112 Jesus G2424 constrained G315 his G846 disciples G3101 to get G1684 into G1519 a ship, G4143 and G2532 to go before G4254 him G846 unto G1519 the other side, G4008 while G2193 G3739 he sent G630 the multitudes G3793 away. G630 And G2532 when he had sent G630 the multitudes G3793 away, G630 he went up G305 into G1519 a mountain G3735 apart G2596 G2398 to pray: G4336 and G1161 when the evening G3798 was come, G1096 he was G2258 there G1563 alone. G3441 But G1161 the ship G4143 was G2258 now G2235 in the midst G3319 of the sea, G2281 tossed G928 with G5259 waves: G2949 for G1063 the wind G417 was G2258 contrary. G1727 And G1161 in the fourth G5067 watch G5438 of the night G3571 Jesus G2424 went G565 unto G4314 them, G846 walking G4043 on G1909 the sea. G2281 And G2532 when the disciples G3101 saw G1492 him G846 walking G4043 on G1909 the sea, G2281 they were troubled, G5015 saying, G3004 G3754 It is G2076 a spirit; G5326 and G2532 they cried out G2896 for G575 fear. G5401 But G1161 straightway G2112 Jesus G2424 spake G2980 unto them, G846 saying, G3004 Be of good cheer; G2293 it is G1510 I; G1473 be G5399 not G3361 afraid. G5399 And G1161 Peter G4074 answered G611 him G846 and said, G2036 Lord, G2962 if G1487 it be G1488 thou, G4771 bid G2753 me G3165 come G2064 unto G4314 thee G4571 on G1909 the water. G5204 And G1161 he said, G2036 Come. G2064 And G2532 when Peter G4074 was come down G2597 out of G575 the ship, G4143 he walked G4043 on G1909 the water, G5204 to go G2064 to G4314 Jesus. G2424 But G1161 when he saw G991 the wind G417 boisterous, G2478 he was afraid; G5399 and G2532 beginning G756 to sink, G2670 he cried, G2896 saying, G3004 Lord, G2962 save G4982 me. G3165 And G1161 immediately G2112 Jesus G2424 stretched forth G1614 his hand, G5495 and caught G1949 him, G846 and G2532 said G3004 unto him, G846 O thou of little faith, G3640 wherefore G1519 G5101 didst thou doubt? G1365 And G2532 when they G846 were come G1684 into G1519 the ship, G4143 the wind G417 ceased. G2869 Then G1161 they that were in G1722 the ship G4143 came G2064 and worshipped G4352 him, G846 saying, G3004 Of a truth G230 thou art G1488 the Son G5207 of God. G2316
And G2532 straightway G2112 he constrained G315 his G846 disciples G3101 to get G1684 into G1519 the ship, G4143 and G2532 to go G4254 to G1519 the other side G4008 before G4254 unto G4314 Bethsaida, G966 while G2193 he G846 sent away G630 the people. G3793 And G2532 when he had sent G657 them G846 away, G657 he departed G565 into G1519 a mountain G3735 to pray. G4336 And G2532 when even G3798 was come, G1096 the ship G4143 was G2258 in G1722 the midst G3319 of the sea, G2281 and G2532 he G846 alone G3441 on G1909 the land. G1093 And G2532 he saw G1492 them G846 toiling G928 in G1722 rowing; G1643 for G1063 the wind G417 was G2258 contrary G1727 unto them: G846 and G2532 about G4012 the fourth G5067 watch G5438 of the night G3571 he cometh G2064 unto G4314 them, G846 walking G4043 upon G1909 the sea, G2281 and G2532 would G2309 have passed by G3928 them. G846 But G1161 when they saw G1492 him G846 walking G4043 upon G1909 the sea, G2281 they supposed G1380 it had been G1511 a spirit, G5326 and G2532 cried out: G349 For G1063 they all G3956 saw G1492 him, G846 and G2532 were troubled. G5015 And G2532 immediately G2112 he talked G2980 with G3326 them, G846 and G2532 saith G3004 unto them, G846 Be of good cheer: G2293 it is G1510 I; G1473 be G5399 not G3361 afraid. G5399 And G2532 he went up G305 unto G4314 them G846 into G1519 the ship; G4143 and G2532 the wind G417 ceased: G2869 and G2532 they were sore G3029 amazed G1839 in G1722 themselves G1438 beyond G1537 measure, G4053 and G2532 wondered. G2296 For G1063 they considered G4920 not G3756 the miracle of G1909 the loaves: G740 for G1063 their G846 heart G2588 was G2258 hardened. G4456
But G1161 Jesus G2424 G846 did G4100 not G3756 commit G4100 himself G1438 unto them, G846 because G1223 he G846 knew G1097 all G3956 men, And G2532 G3754 needed G5532 G2192 not G3756 that G2443 any G5100 should testify G3140 of G4012 man: G444 for G1063 he G846 knew G1097 what G5101 was G2258 in G1722 man. G444
On the next day G1887 much G4183 people G3793 that were come G2064 to G1519 the feast, G1859 when they heard G191 that G3754 Jesus G2424 was coming G2064 to G1519 Jerusalem, G2414 Took G2983 branches G902 of palm trees, G5404 and G2532 went forth G1831 to G1519 meet G5222 him, G846 and G2532 cried, G2896 Hosanna: G5614 Blessed G2127 is the King G935 of Israel G2474 that cometh G2064 in G1722 the name G3686 of the Lord. G2962 And G1161 Jesus, G2424 when he had found G2147 a young ass, G3678 sat G2523 thereon; G1909 G846 as G2531 it is G2076 written, G1125 Fear G5399 not, G3361 daughter G2364 of Sion: G4622 behold, G2400 thy G4675 King G935 cometh, G2064 sitting G2521 on G1909 an ass's G3688 colt. Commentary on John 6 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 6
In this chapter we have,
Jhn 6:1-14
We have here an account of Christ's feeding five thousand men with five loaves and two fishes, which miracle is in this respect remarkable, that it is the only passage of the actions of Christ's life that is recorded by all the four evangelists. John, who does not usually relate what had been recorded by those who wrote before him, yet relates this, because of the reference the following discourse has to it. Observe,
Jhn 6:15-21
Here is,
Jhn 6:22-27
In these verses we have,
Jhn 6:28-59
Whether this conference was with the Capernaites, in whose synagogue Christ now was, or with those who came from the other side of the sea, is not certain nor material; however, it is an instance of Christ's condescension that he gave them leave to ask him questions, and did not resent the interruption as an affront, no, not from his common hearers, though not his immediate followers. Those that would be apt to teach must be swift to hear, and study to answer. It is the wisdom of teachers, when they are asked even impertinent unprofitable questions, thence to take occasion to answer in that which is profitable, that the question may be rejected, but not the request. Now,
Jhn 6:60-71
We have here an account of the effects of Christ's discourse. Some were offended and others edified by it; some driven from him and others brought nearer to him.
