30 They said G2036 therefore G3767 unto him, G846 What G5101 sign G4592 shewest G4160 thou G4771 then, G3767 that G2443 we may see, G1492 and G2532 believe G4100 thee? G4671 what G5101 dost thou work? G2038
And G1161 when the people G3793 were gathered thick together, G1865 he began G756 to say, G3004 This G3778 is G2076 an evil G4190 generation: G1074 they seek G1934 a sign; G4592 and G2532 there shall G1325 no G3756 sign G4592 be given G1325 it, G846 but G1508 the sign G4592 of Jonas G2495 the prophet. G4396 For G1063 as G2531 Jonas G2495 was G1096 a sign G4592 unto the Ninevites, G3536 so G3779 shall G2071 also G2532 the Son G5207 of man G444 be G2071 to this G5026 generation. G1074
The other G243 disciples G3101 therefore G3767 said G3004 unto him, G846 We have seen G3708 the Lord. G2962 But G1161 he said G2036 unto them, G846 Except G3362 I shall see G1492 in G1722 his G846 hands G5495 the print G5179 of the nails, G2247 and G2532 put G906 my G3450 finger G1147 into G1519 the print G5179 of the nails, G2247 and G2532 thrust G906 my G3450 hand G5495 into G1519 his G846 side, G4125 I will G4100 not G3364 believe. G4100 And G2532 after G3326 eight G3638 days G2250 again G3825 his G846 disciples G3101 were G2258 within, G2080 and G2532 Thomas G2381 with G3326 them: G846 then came G2064 Jesus, G2424 the doors G2374 being shut, G2808 and G2532 stood G2476 in G1519 the midst, G3319 and G2532 said, G2036 Peace G1515 be unto you. G5213 Then G1534 saith he G3004 to Thomas, G2381 Reach G5342 hither G5602 thy G4675 finger, G1147 and G2532 behold G1492 my G3450 hands; G5495 and G2532 reach hither G5342 thy G4675 hand, G5495 and G2532 thrust G906 it into G1519 my G3450 side: G4125 and G2532 be G1096 not G3361 faithless, G571 but G235 believing. G4103 And G2532 Thomas G2381 answered G611 and G2532 said G2036 unto him, G846 My G3450 Lord G2962 and G2532 my G3450 God. G2316 Jesus G2424 saith G3004 unto him, G846 Thomas, G2381 because G3754 thou hast seen G3708 me, G3165 thou hast believed: G4100 blessed G3107 are they that have not G3361 seen, G1492 and G2532 yet have believed. G4100
The Pharisees G5330 also G2532 with the Sadducees G4523 came, G4334 and G2532 tempting G3985 desired G1905 him G846 that he would shew G1925 them G846 a sign G4592 from G1537 heaven. G3772 G1161 He answered G611 and said G2036 unto them, G846 When it is G1096 evening, G3798 ye say, G3004 It will be fair weather: G2105 for G1063 the sky G3772 is red. G4449 And G2532 in the morning, G4404 It will be foul weather G5494 to day: G4594 for G1063 the sky G3772 is red G4449 and lowring. G4768 O ye hypocrites, G5273 ye can G1097 discern G1252 G3303 the face G4383 of the sky; G3772 but G1161 can ye G1410 not G3756 discern the signs G4592 of the times? G2540 A wicked G4190 and G2532 adulterous G3428 generation G1074 seeketh after G1934 a sign; G4592 and G2532 there shall no G3756 sign G4592 be given G1325 unto it, G846 but G1508 the sign G4592 of the prophet G4396 Jonas. G2495 And G2532 he left G2641 them, G846 and departed. G565
Then G5119 certain G5100 of the scribes G1122 and G2532 of the Pharisees G5330 answered, G611 saying, G3004 Master, G1320 we would G2309 see G1492 a sign G4592 from G575 thee. G4675 But G1161 he answered G611 and said G2036 unto them, G846 An evil G4190 and G2532 adulterous G3428 generation G1074 seeketh after G1934 a sign; G4592 and G2532 there shall no G3756 sign G4592 be given G1325 to it, G846 but G1508 the sign G4592 of the prophet G4396 Jonas: G2495
Ask H7592 thee a sign H226 of the LORD H3068 thy God; H430 ask H7592 it either in the depth, H6009 or in the height H1361 above. H4605 But Ahaz H271 said, H559 I will not ask, H7592 neither will I tempt H5254 H853 the LORD. H3068 And he said, H559 Hear H8085 ye now, O house H1004 of David; H1732 Is it a small thing H4592 for you to weary H3811 men, H582 but will ye weary H3811 my God H430 also? Therefore the Lord H136 himself shall give H5414 you a sign; H226 Behold, a virgin H5959 shall conceive, H2030 and bear H3205 a son, H1121 and shall call H7121 his name H8034 Immanuel. H410 H6005

Commentary on John 6 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 6
In this chapter we have,
Jhn 6:1-14
We have here an account of Christ's feeding five thousand men with five loaves and two fishes, which miracle is in this respect remarkable, that it is the only passage of the actions of Christ's life that is recorded by all the four evangelists. John, who does not usually relate what had been recorded by those who wrote before him, yet relates this, because of the reference the following discourse has to it. Observe,
Jhn 6:15-21
Here is,
Jhn 6:22-27
In these verses we have,
Jhn 6:28-59
Whether this conference was with the Capernaites, in whose synagogue Christ now was, or with those who came from the other side of the sea, is not certain nor material; however, it is an instance of Christ's condescension that he gave them leave to ask him questions, and did not resent the interruption as an affront, no, not from his common hearers, though not his immediate followers. Those that would be apt to teach must be swift to hear, and study to answer. It is the wisdom of teachers, when they are asked even impertinent unprofitable questions, thence to take occasion to answer in that which is profitable, that the question may be rejected, but not the request. Now,
Jhn 6:60-71
We have here an account of the effects of Christ's discourse. Some were offended and others edified by it; some driven from him and others brought nearer to him.
