47 He that is G5607 of G1537 God G2316 heareth G191 God's G2316 words: G4487 ye G5210 therefore G5124 G1223 hear G191 them not, G3756 because G3754 ye are G2075 not G3756 of G1537 God. G2316
But G1161 as many as G3745 received G2983 him, G846 to them G846 gave he G1325 power G1849 to become G1096 the sons G5043 of God, G2316 even to them that believe G4100 on G1519 his G846 name: G3686 Which G3739 were born, G1080 not G3756 of G1537 blood, G129 nor G3761 of G1537 the will G2307 of the flesh, G4561 nor G3761 of G1537 the will G2307 of man, G435 but G235 of G1537 God. G2316
It is G2076 written G1125 in G1722 the prophets, G4396 And G2532 they shall be G2071 all G3956 taught G1318 of God. G2316 Every man G3956 therefore G3767 that hath heard, G191 and G2532 hath learned G3129 of G3844 the Father, G3962 cometh G2064 unto G4314 me. G3165 Not G3756 that G3754 any man G5100 hath seen G3708 the Father, G3962 save G1508 he which G3588 is G3844 G5607 of God, G2316 he G3778 hath seen G3708 the Father. G3962
I have manifested G5319 thy G4675 name G3686 unto the men G444 which G3739 thou gavest G1325 me G3427 out of G1537 the world: G2889 thine G4674 they were, G2258 and G2532 thou gavest G1325 them G846 me; G1698 and G2532 they have kept G5083 thy G4675 word. G3056 Now G3568 they have known G1097 that G3754 all things G3956 whatsoever G3745 thou hast given G1325 me G3427 are G2076 of G3844 thee. G4675 For G3754 I have given G1325 unto them G846 the words G4487 which G3739 thou gavest G1325 me; G3427 and G2532 they G846 have received G2983 them, and G2532 have known G1097 surely G230 that G3754 I came out G1831 from G3844 thee, G4675 and G2532 they have believed G4100 that G3754 thou G4771 didst send G649 me. G3165
Beloved, G27 believe G4100 not G3361 every G3956 spirit, G4151 but G235 try G1381 the spirits G4151 whether G1487 they are G2076 of G1537 God: G2316 because G3754 many G4183 false prophets G5578 are gone out G1831 into G1519 the world. G2889 Hereby G1722 G3739 G5129 know ye G1097 the Spirit G4151 of God: G2316 Every G3956 spirit G4151 that confesseth G3670 that Jesus G2424 Christ G5547 is come G2064 in G1722 the flesh G4561 is G2076 of G1537 God: G2316 And G2532 every G3956 spirit G4151 that G3739 confesseth G3670 not G3361 that Jesus G2424 Christ G5547 is come G2064 in G1722 the flesh G4561 is G2076 not G3756 of G1537 God: G2316 and G2532 this G5124 is G2076 that spirit of antichrist, G500 whereof G3739 ye have heard G191 that G3754 it should come; G2064 and even G2532 now G3568 already G2235 is it G2076 in G1722 the world. G2889 Ye G5210 are G2075 of G1537 God, G2316 little children, G5040 and G2532 have overcome G3528 them: G846 because G3754 greater G3187 is he that is G2076 in G1722 you, G5213 than G2228 he that is in G1722 the world. G2889 They G846 are G1526 of G1537 the world: G2889 therefore G1223 G5124 speak they G2980 of G1537 the world, G2889 and G2532 the world G2889 heareth G191 them. G846 We G2249 are G2070 of G1537 God: G2316 he that knoweth G1097 God G2316 heareth G191 us; G2257 he that G3739 is G2076 not G3756 of G1537 God G2316 heareth G191 not G3756 us. G2257 Hereby G1537 G5127 know we G1097 the spirit G4151 of truth, G225 and G2532 the spirit G4151 of error. G4106

Commentary on John 8 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 8
In this chapter we have,
Jhn 8:1-11
Though Christ was basely abused in the foregoing chapter, both by the rulers and by the people, yet here we have him still at Jerusalem, still in the temple. How often would he have gathered them! Observe,
Jhn 8:12-20
The rest of the chapter is taken up with debates between Christ and contradicting sinners, who cavilled at the most gracious words that proceeded out of his mouth. It is not certain whether these disputes were the same day that the adulteress was discharged; it is probable they were, for the evangelist mentions no other day, and takes notice (v. 2) how early Christ began that day's work. Though those Pharisees that accused the woman had absconded, yet there were other Pharisees (v. 13) to confront Christ, who had brass enough in their foreheads to keep them in countenance, though some of their party were put to such a shameful retreat; nay perhaps that made them the more industrious to pick quarrels with him, to retrieve, if possible, the reputation of their baffled party. In these verses we have,
This was the sum of the first conference between Christ and these carnal Jews, in the conclusion of which we are told how their tongues were let loose, and their hands tied.
Jhn 8:21-30
Christ here gives fair warning to the careless unbelieving Jews to consider what would be the consequence of their infidelity, that they might prevent it before it was too late; for he spoke words of terror as well as words of grace. Observe here,
Jhn 8:31-37
We have in these verses,
Jhn 8:38-47
Here Christ and the Jews are still at issue; he sets himself to convince and convert them, while they still set themselves to contradict and oppose him.
This is a high charge, and sounds very harsh and horrid, that any of the children of men, especially the church's children, should be called children of the devil, and therefore our Saviour fully proves it.
Jhn 8:48-50
Here is,
Jhn 8:51-59
In these verses we have,
