16 That the waters H4325 which came down H3381 from above H4605 stood H5975 and rose up H6965 upon an H259 heap H5067 very H3966 far H7368 from the city H5892 Adam, H121 that is beside H6654 Zaretan: H6891 and those that came down H3381 toward the sea H3220 of the plain, H6160 even the salt H4417 sea, H3220 failed, H8552 and were cut off: H3772 and the people H5971 passed over H5674 right against Jericho. H3405
And G2532 he saith G3004 unto them, G846 Why G5101 are ye G2075 fearful, G1169 O ye of little faith? G3640 Then G5119 he arose, G1453 and rebuked G2008 the winds G417 and G2532 the sea; G2281 and G2532 there was G1096 a great G3173 calm. G1055 But G1161 the men G444 marvelled, G2296 saying, G3004 What manner of man G4217 is G2076 this, G3778 that G3754 even G2532 the winds G417 and G2532 the sea G2281 obey G5219 him! G846
But G1161 the ship G4143 was G2258 now G2235 in the midst G3319 of the sea, G2281 tossed G928 with G5259 waves: G2949 for G1063 the wind G417 was G2258 contrary. G1727 And G1161 in the fourth G5067 watch G5438 of the night G3571 Jesus G2424 went G565 unto G4314 them, G846 walking G4043 on G1909 the sea. G2281 And G2532 when the disciples G3101 saw G1492 him G846 walking G4043 on G1909 the sea, G2281 they were troubled, G5015 saying, G3004 G3754 It is G2076 a spirit; G5326 and G2532 they cried out G2896 for G575 fear. G5401 But G1161 straightway G2112 Jesus G2424 spake G2980 unto them, G846 saying, G3004 Be of good cheer; G2293 it is G1510 I; G1473 be G5399 not G3361 afraid. G5399 And G1161 Peter G4074 answered G611 him G846 and said, G2036 Lord, G2962 if G1487 it be G1488 thou, G4771 bid G2753 me G3165 come G2064 unto G4314 thee G4571 on G1909 the water. G5204 And G1161 he said, G2036 Come. G2064 And G2532 when Peter G4074 was come down G2597 out of G575 the ship, G4143 he walked G4043 on G1909 the water, G5204 to go G2064 to G4314 Jesus. G2424 But G1161 when he saw G991 the wind G417 boisterous, G2478 he was afraid; G5399 and G2532 beginning G756 to sink, G2670 he cried, G2896 saying, G3004 Lord, G2962 save G4982 me. G3165 And G1161 immediately G2112 Jesus G2424 stretched forth G1614 his hand, G5495 and caught G1949 him, G846 and G2532 said G3004 unto him, G846 O thou of little faith, G3640 wherefore G1519 G5101 didst thou doubt? G1365 And G2532 when they G846 were come G1684 into G1519 the ship, G4143 the wind G417 ceased. G2869 Then G1161 they that were in G1722 the ship G4143 came G2064 and worshipped G4352 him, G846 saying, G3004 Of a truth G230 thou art G1488 the Son G5207 of God. G2316

Commentary on Joshua 3 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 3
This chapter, and that which follows it, give us the history of Israel's passing through Jordan into Canaan, and a very memorable history it is. Long afterwards, they are told to remember what God did for them between Shittim (whence they decamped, v. 1). and Gilgal, where they next pitched, ch. 4:19, Mic. 6:5, that they might know the righteousness of the Lord. By Joshua's order they marched up to the river's side (v. 1), and then almighty power led them through it. They passed through the Red Sea unexpectedly, and in their flight by night, but they have notice some time before of their passing through Jordan, and their expectations raised.
Jos 3:1-6
Rahab, in mentioning to the spies the drying up of the Red Sea (ch. 2:10), the report of which terrified the Canaanites more than anything else, intimates that those on that side the water expected that Jordan, that great defence of their country, would in like manner give way to them. Whether the Israelites had any expectation of it does not appear. God often did things for them which they looked not for, Isa. 64:3. Now here we are told,
Jos 3:7-13
We may observe here how God honours Joshua, and by this wondrous work he is about to do designs to make Israel know that he is their governor, and then how Joshua honours God and endeavours by it to make Israel know that he is their God. Thus those that honour God he will honour, and those whom he has advanced should do what they can in their places to exalt him.
Jos 3:14-17
Here we have a short and plain account of the dividing of the river Jordan, and the passage of the children of Israel through it. The story is not garnished with the flowers of rhetoric (gold needs not to be painted), but it tell us, in short, matter of fact.
