16 Nevertheless the LORD H3068 raised up H6965 judges, H8199 which delivered H3467 them out of the hand H3027 of those that spoiled H8154 them.
Many H7227 times H6471 did he deliver H5337 them; but they provoked H4784 him with their counsel, H6098 and were brought low H4355 for their iniquity. H5771 Nevertheless he regarded H7200 their affliction, H6862 when he heard H8085 their cry: H7440 And he remembered H2142 for them his covenant, H1285 and repented H5162 according to the multitude H7230 of his mercies. H2617
And when the children H1121 of Israel H3478 cried H2199 unto the LORD, H3068 the LORD H3068 raised up H6965 a deliverer H3467 to the children H1121 of Israel, H3478 who delivered H3467 them, even Othniel H6274 the son H1121 of Kenaz, H7073 Caleb's H3612 younger H6996 brother. H251 And the Spirit H7307 of the LORD H3068 came upon him, and he judged H8199 Israel, H3478 and went out H3318 to war: H4421 and the LORD H3068 delivered H5414 Chushanrishathaim H3573 king H4428 of Mesopotamia H763 into his hand; H3027 and his hand H3027 prevailed H5810 against Chushanrishathaim. Commentary on Judges 2 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 2
In this chapter we have,
Jdg 2:1-5
It was the privilege of Israel that they had not only a law in general sent them from heaven, once for all, to direct them into and keep them in the way of happiness, but that they had particular messages sent them from heaven, as there was occasion, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, when at any time they turned aside out of that way. Besides the written word which they had before them to read, they often heard a word behind them, saying, This is the way, Isa. 30:21. Here begins that way of God's dealing with them. When they would not hear Moses, let it be tried whether they will hear the prophets. In these verses we have a very awakening sermon that was preached to them when they began to cool in their religion.
Jdg 2:6-23

The angel had foretold that the Canaanites and their idols would be a snare to Israel; now the historian undertakes to show that they were so, and, that this may appear the more clear, he looks back a little, and takes notice,
And so he comes to give us a general idea of the series of things in Israel during the time of the judges, the same repeated in the same order.
