6 And the children H1121 of Israel H3478 repented H5162 them for Benjamin H1144 their brother, H251 and said, H559 There is one H259 tribe H7626 cut off H1438 from Israel H3478 this day. H3117
And the people H5971 repented H5162 them for Benjamin, H1144 because that the LORD H3068 had made H6213 a breach H6556 in the tribes H7626 of Israel. H3478
And it came to pass, when he saw H7200 her, that he rent H7167 his clothes, H899 and said, H559 Alas, H162 my daughter! H1323 thou hast brought H3766 me very H3766 low, H3766 and thou art one of them that trouble H5916 me: for I have opened H6475 my mouth H6310 unto the LORD, H3068 and I cannot H3201 go back. H7725
(And the children H1121 of Israel H3478 went up H5927 and wept H1058 before H6440 the LORD H3068 until even, H6153 and asked H7592 counsel of the LORD, H3068 saying, H559 Shall I go up H5066 again H3254 to battle H4421 against the children H1121 of Benjamin H1144 my brother? H251 And the LORD H3068 said, H559 Go up H5927 against him.)
Then Abner H74 called H7121 to Joab, H3097 and said, H559 Shall the sword H2719 devour H398 for ever? H5331 knowest H3045 thou not that it will be bitterness H4751 in the latter end? H314 how long shall it be then, ere thou bid H559 the people H5971 return H7725 from following H310 their brethren? H251
How shall I give thee up, H5414 Ephraim? H669 how shall I deliver H4042 thee, Israel? H3478 how shall I make H5414 thee as Admah? H126 how shall I set H7760 thee as Zeboim? H6636 mine heart H3820 is turned H2015 within me, my repentings H5150 are kindled H3648 together. H3162
And G2532 when G5613 he was come near, G1448 he beheld G1492 the city, G4172 and wept G2799 over G1909 it, G846 Saying, G3004 If G3754 G1487 thou hadst known, G1097 even G2532 thou, G4771 at least G2534 in G1722 this G5026 thy G4675 day, G2250 the things G3588 which belong unto G4314 thy G4675 peace! G1515 but G1161 now G3568 they are hid G2928 from G575 thine G4675 eyes. G3788

Commentary on Judges 21 Matthew Henry Commentary

The ruins of the tribe of Benjamin we read of in the foregoing chapter; now here we have,
Jdg 21:1-15

We have here the method that was taken to provide the 200 Benjamites that remained with wives. And, though the tribe was reduced to a small number, they were only in care to provide each man with one wife, not with more under pretence of multiplying them the faster.
