24 And G1161 when the messengers G32 of John G2491 were departed, G565 he began G756 to speak G3004 unto G4314 the people G3793 concerning G4012 John, G2491 What G5101 went ye out G1831 into G1519 the wilderness G2048 for to see? G2300 A reed G2563 shaken G4531 with G5259 the wind? G417
G1161 In G1722 those G1565 days G2250 came G3854 John G2491 the Baptist, G910 preaching G2784 in G1722 the wilderness G2048 of Judaea, G2449 And G2532 saying, G3004 Repent ye: G3340 for G1063 the kingdom G932 of heaven G3772 is at hand. G1448 For G1063 this G3778 is he G2076 that was spoken G4483 of by G5259 the prophet G4396 Esaias, G2268 saying, G3004 The voice G5456 of one crying G994 in G1722 the wilderness, G2048 Prepare ye G2090 the way G3598 of the Lord, G2962 make G4160 his G846 paths G5147 straight. G2117 And G1161 the same G846 John G2491 had G2192 his G846 raiment G1742 of G575 camel's G2574 hair, G2359 and G2532 a leathern G1193 girdle G2223 about G4012 his G846 loins; G3751 and G1161 his G846 meat G5160 was G2258 locusts G200 and G2532 wild G66 honey. G3192 Then G5119 went out G1607 to G4314 him G846 Jerusalem, G2414 and G2532 all G3956 Judaea, G2449 and G2532 all G3956 the region round about G4066 Jordan, G2446
And G1161 as G5130 they departed, G4198 Jesus G2424 began G756 to say G3004 unto the multitudes G3793 concerning G4012 John, G2491 What G5101 went ye G1831 out into G1519 the wilderness G2048 to see? G2300 A reed G2563 shaken G4531 with G5259 the wind? G417 But G235 what G5101 went ye out G1831 for to see? G1492 A man G444 clothed G294 in G1722 soft G3120 raiment? G2440 behold, G2400 they that wear G5409 soft G3120 clothing are G1526 in G1722 kings' G935 houses. G3624
John G2491 did G1096 baptize G907 in G1722 the wilderness, G2048 and G2532 preach G2784 the baptism G908 of repentance G3341 for G1519 the remission G859 of sins. G266 And G2532 there went out G1607 unto G4314 him G846 all G3956 the land G5561 of Judaea, G2449 and G2532 they of Jerusalem, G2415 and G2532 were G907 all G3956 baptized G907 of G5259 him G846 in G1722 the river G4215 of Jordan, G2446 confessing G1843 their G846 sins. G266
When I G1011 therefore G3767 was G1011 thus G5124 minded, G1011 did I use G3385 G686 G5530 lightness? G1644 or G2228 the things that G3739 I purpose, G1011 do I purpose G1011 according G2596 to the flesh, G4561 that G2443 with G3844 me G1698 there should be G5600 yea G3483 yea, G3483 and G2532 nay G3756 nay? G3756 But G1161 as God G2316 is true, G4103 G3754 our G2257 word G3056 toward G4314 you G5209 was G1096 not G3756 yea G3483 and G2532 nay. G3756 For G1063 the Son G5207 of God, G2316 Jesus G2424 Christ, G5547 who G3588 was preached G2784 among G1722 you G5213 by G1223 us, G2257 even by G1223 me G1700 and G2532 Silvanus G4610 and G2532 Timotheus, G5095 was G1096 not G3756 yea G3483 and G2532 nay, G3756 but G235 in G1722 him G846 was G1096 yea. G3483 For G1063 all G3745 the promises G1860 of God G2316 in G1722 him G846 are yea, G3483 and G2532 in G1722 him G846 Amen, G281 unto G4314 the glory G1391 of God G2316 by G1223 us. G2257
But G1161 let him ask G154 in G1722 faith, G4102 nothing G3367 wavering. G1252 For G1063 he that wavereth G1252 is like G1503 a wave G2830 of the sea G2281 driven with the wind G416 and G2532 tossed. G4494 For G1063 let G3633 not G3361 that G1565 man G444 think G3633 that G3754 he shall receive G2983 any thing G5100 of G3844 the Lord. G2962 A double minded G1374 man G435 is unstable G182 in G1722 all G3956 his G846 ways. G3598

Commentary on Luke 7 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 7
In this chapter we have,
Luk 7:1-10
Some difference there is between this story of the cure of the centurion's servant as it is related here and as we had it in Mt. 8:5, etc. There it was said that the centurion came to Christ; here it is said that he sent to him first some of the elders of the Jews (v. 3), and afterwards some other friends, v. 6. But it is a rule that we are said to do that which we do by another-Quod facimus per alium, id ipsum facere judicamur. The centurion might be said to do that which he did by his proxies; as a man takes possession by his attorney. But it is probable that the centurion himself came at last, when Christ said to him (Mt. 8:13), As thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee.
This miracle is here said to have been wrought by our Lord Jesus when he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, v. 1. What Christ said he said publicly; whoever would might come and hear him: In secret have I said nothing, Jn. 18:20. Now, to give an undeniable proof of the authority of his preaching word, he here gives an incontestable proof of the power and efficacy of his healing word. He that had such a commanding empire in the kingdom of nature as that he could command away diseases, no doubt has such a sovereignty in the kingdom of grace as to enjoin duties displeasing to flesh and blood, and bind, under the highest penalties, to the observance of them. This miracle was wrought in Capernaum, where most of Christ's mighty works were done, Mt. 11:23. Now observe,
Luk 7:11-18
We have here the story of Christ's raising to life a widow's son at Nain, that was dead and in the carrying out to be buried, which Matthew and Mark had made no mention of; only, in the general, Matthew had recorded it, in Christ's answer to the disciples of John, that the dead were raised up, Mt. 11:5. Observe,
Luk 7:19-35
All this discourse concerning John Baptist, occasioned by his sending to ask whether he was the Messiah or no, we had, much as it is here related, Mt. 11:2-19.
Luk 7:36-50
When and where this passage of story happened does not appear; this evangelist does not observe order of time in his narrative so much as the other evangelists do; but it comes in here, upon occasion of Christ's being reproached as a friend to publicans and sinners, to show that it was only for their good, and to bring them to repentance, that he conversed with them; and that those whom he admitted hear him were reformed, or in a hopeful way to be so. Who this woman was that here testified so great an affection to Christ does not appear; it is commonly said to be Mary Magdalene, but I find no ground in scripture for it: she is described (ch. 8:2 and Mk. 16:9) to be one out of whom Christ had cast seven devils; but that is not mentioned here, and therefore it is probable that it was not she. Now observe here,
Now in what this good woman did, we may observe,
