3 Hearken; G191 Behold, G2400 there went out G1831 a sower G4687 to sow: G4687
I G1473 have planted, G5452 Apollos G625 watered; G4222 but G235 God G2316 gave the increase. G837 So G5620 then neither G3777 is G2076 he that planteth G5452 any thing, G5100 neither G3777 he that watereth; G4222 but G235 God G2316 that giveth the increase. G837 Now G1161 he that planteth G5452 and G2532 he that watereth G4222 are G1526 one: G1520 and G1161 every man G1538 shall receive G2983 his own G2398 reward G3408 according G2596 to his own G2398 labour. G2873 For G1063 we are G2070 labourers together G4904 with God: G2316 ye are G2075 God's G2316 husbandry, G1091 ye are God's G2316 building. G3619
Say G3004 not G3756 ye, G5210 There G3754 are G2076 yet G2089 four months, G5072 and G2532 then cometh G2064 harvest? G2326 behold, G2400 I say G3004 unto you, G5213 Lift up G1869 your G5216 eyes, G3788 and G2532 look on G2300 the fields; G5561 for G3754 they are G1526 white G3022 already G2235 to G4314 harvest. G2326 And G2532 he that reapeth G2325 receiveth G2983 wages, G3408 and G2532 gathereth G4863 fruit G2590 unto G1519 life G2222 eternal: G166 that G2443 both G2532 he that soweth G4687 and G2532 he that reapeth G2325 may rejoice G5463 together. G3674 And G1063 herein G1722 G5129 is G2076 that saying G3056 true, G228 G3754 One G243 soweth, G2076 G4687 and G2532 another G243 reapeth. G2325 I G1473 sent G649 you G5209 to reap G2325 that whereon G3739 ye G5210 bestowed G2872 no G3756 labour: G2872 other men G243 laboured, G2872 and G2532 ye G5210 are entered G1525 into G1519 their G846 labours. G2873
A sower G4687 went out G1831 to sow G4687 his G846 seed: G4703 and G2532 as G1722 he G846 sowed, G4687 some G3739 G3303 fell G4098 by G3844 the way side; G3598 and G2532 it was trodden down, G2662 and G2532 the fowls G4071 of the air G3772 devoured G2719 it. G846 And G2532 some G2087 fell G4098 upon G1909 a rock; G4073 and G2532 as soon as it was sprung up, G5453 it withered away, G3583 because G1223 it lacked G3361 G2192 moisture. G2429 And G2532 some G2087 fell G4098 among G1722 G3319 thorns; G173 and G2532 the thorns G173 sprang up with it, G4855 and choked G638 G1970 it. G846 And G2532 other G2087 fell G4098 on G1909 good G18 ground, G1093 and G2532 sprang up, G5453 and bare G4160 fruit G2590 an hundredfold. G1542 And when he had said G3004 these things, G5023 he cried, G5455 He that hath G2192 ears G3775 to hear, G191 let him hear. G191
And G2532 he said, G3004 So G3779 is G2076 the kingdom G932 of God, G2316 as G5613 if G1437 a man G444 should cast G906 seed G4703 into G1909 the ground; G1093 And G2532 should sleep, G2518 and G2532 rise G1453 night G3571 and G2532 day, G2250 and G2532 the seed G4703 should spring G985 and G2532 grow up, G3373 he G846 knoweth G1492 not G3756 how. G5613 For G1063 the earth G1093 bringeth forth fruit G2592 of herself; G844 first G4412 the blade, G5528 then G1534 the ear, G4719 after that G1534 the full G4134 corn G4621 in G1722 the ear. G4719 But G1161 when G3752 the fruit G2590 is brought forth, G3860 immediately G2112 he putteth in G649 the sickle, G1407 because G3754 the harvest G2326 is come. G3936
Therefore G1223 G5124 we G2248 ought G1163 to give the more earnest G4056 heed G4337 to the things which we have heard, G191 lest at any time G3379 we should let them slip. G3901 For G1063 if G1487 the word G3056 spoken G2980 by G1223 angels G32 was G1096 stedfast, G949 and G2532 every G3956 transgression G3847 and G2532 disobedience G3876 received G2983 a just G1738 recompence of reward; G3405 How G4459 shall we G2249 escape, G1628 if we neglect G272 so great G5082 salvation; G4991 which G3748 at the first G746 began G2983 to be spoken G2980 by G1223 the Lord, G2962 and was confirmed G950 unto G1519 us G2248 by G5259 them that heard G191 him;
And G2532 when he had called G4341 all G3956 the people G3793 unto him, he said G3004 unto them, G846 Hearken G191 unto me G3450 every one G3956 of you, and G2532 understand: G4920 There is G2076 nothing G3762 from without G1855 a man, G444 that G3739 entering G1531 into G1519 him G846 can G1410 defile G2840 him: G846 but G235 the things which come G1607 out of G575 him, G846 those G1565 are they G2076 that defile G2840 the man. G444
Ho, H1945 every one that thirsteth, H6771 come H3212 ye to the waters, H4325 and he that hath no money; H3701 come H3212 ye, buy, H7666 and eat; H398 yea, come, H3212 buy H7666 wine H3196 and milk H2461 without money H3701 and without price. H4242 Wherefore do ye spend H8254 money H3701 for that which is not bread? H3899 and your labour H3018 for that which satisfieth H7654 not? H3808 hearken H8085 diligently H8085 unto me, and eat H398 ye that which is good, H2896 and let your soul H5315 delight H6026 itself in fatness. H1880
Give ye ear, H238 and hear H8085 my voice; H6963 hearken, H7181 and hear H8085 my speech. H565 Doth the plowman H2790 plow H2790 all day H3117 to sow? H2232 doth he open H6605 and break the clods H7702 of his ground? H127 When he hath made plain H7737 the face H6440 thereof, doth he not cast abroad H6327 the fitches, H7100 and scatter H2236 the cummin, H3646 and cast H7760 in the principal H7795 wheat H2406 and the appointed H5567 barley H8184 and the rie H3698 in their place? H1367 For his God H430 doth instruct H3256 him to discretion, H4941 and doth teach H3384 him.

Commentary on Mark 4 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 4
In this chapter, we have,
Mar 4:1-20
The foregoing chapter began with Christ's entering into the synagogue (v. 1); this chapter begins with Christ's teaching again by the sea side. Thus he changed his method, that if possible all might be reached and wrought upon. To gratify the nice and more genteel sort of people that had seats, chief seats, in the synagogue, and did not care for hearing a sermon any where else, he did not preach always by the sea side, but, having liberty, went often into the synagogue, and taught there; yet, to gratify the poor, the mob, that could not get room in the synagogue, he did not always preach there, but began again to teach by the sea side, where they could come within hearing. Thus are we debtors both to the wise and to the unwise, Rom. 1:14.
Here seems to be a new convenience found out, which had not been used before, though he had before preached by the sea side (ch. 2:13), and that was-his standing in a ship, while his hearers stood upon the land; and that inland sea of Tiberias having no tide, there was no ebbing and flowing of the waters to disturb them. Methinks Christ's carrying his doctrine into a ship, and preaching it thence, was a presage of his sending the gospel to the isles of the Gentiles, and the shipping off of the kingdom of God (that rich cargo) from the Jewish nation, to be sent to a people that would bring forth more of the fruits of it. Now observe here,
In particular, we have here,
Having thus prepared them for it, he gives them the interpretation of the parable of the sower, as we had it before in Matthew. Let us only observe here,
Mar 4:21-34
The lessons which our Saviour designs to teach us here by parables and figurative expressions are these:-
After the parables thus specified the historian concludes with this general account of Christ's preaching-that with many such parables he spoke the word unto them (v. 33); probably designing to refer us to the larger account of the parables of this kind, which we had before, Mt. 13. He spoke in parables, as they were able to hear them; he fetched his comparisons from those things that were familiar to them, and level to their capacity, and delivered them in plain expressions, in condescension to their capacity; though he did not let them into the mystery of the parables, yet his manner of expression was easy, and such as they might hereafter recollect to their edification. But, for the present, without a parable spoke he not unto them, v. 34. The glory of the Lord was covered with a cloud, and God speaks to us in the language of the sons of men, that, though not at first, yet by degrees, we may understand his meaning; the disciples themselves understood those sayings of Christ afterward, which at first they did not rightly take the sense of. But these parables he expounded to them, when they were alone. We cannot but wish we had had that exposition, as we had of the parable of the sower; but it was not so needful; because, when the church should be enlarged, that would expound these parables to us, without any more ado.
Mar 4:35-41
This miracle which Christ wrought for the relief of his disciples, in stilling the storm, we had before (Mt. 8:23, etc.); but it is here more fully related. Observe,
