27 And G2532 Jesus G2424 went out, G1831 and G2532 his G846 disciples, G3101 into G1519 the towns G2968 of Caesarea G2542 Philippi: G5376 and G2532 by G1722 the way G3598 he asked G1905 his G846 disciples, G3101 saying G3004 unto them, G846 Whom G5101 do G3004 men G444 say G3004 that I G3165 am? G1511
And G2532 it came to pass, G1096 as G1722 he was G1511 alone G2651 praying, G4336 his G846 disciples G3101 were with G4895 him: G846 and G2532 he asked G1905 them, G846 saying, G3004 Whom G5101 say G3004 the people G3793 that I G3165 am? G1511 They G1161 answering G611 said, G2036 John G2491 the Baptist; G910 but G1161 some G243 say, Elias; G2243 and G1161 others G243 say, that G3754 one G5100 of the old G744 prophets G4396 is risen again. G450 G1161 He said G2036 unto them, G846 But G1161 whom G5101 say G3004 ye G5210 that I G3165 am? G1511 G1161 Peter G4074 answering G611 said, G2036 The Christ G5547 of God. G2316
When G1161 Jesus G2424 came G2064 into G1519 the coasts G3313 of Caesarea G2542 Philippi, G5376 he asked G2065 his G846 disciples, G3101 saying, G3004 Whom G5101 do men G444 say G3004 that I G3165 the Son G5207 of man G444 am? G1511 And G1161 they said, G2036 Some say that thou art G3303 John G2491 the Baptist: G910 G1161 some, G243 Elias; G2243 and G1161 others, G2087 Jeremias, G2408 or G2228 one G1520 of the prophets. G4396 He saith G3004 unto them, G846 But G1161 whom G5101 say G3004 ye G5210 that I G3165 am? G1511 And G1161 Simon G4613 Peter G4074 answered G611 and said, G2036 Thou G4771 art G1488 the Christ, G5547 the Son G5207 of the living G2198 God. G2316 And G2532 Jesus G2424 answered G611 and said G2036 unto him, G846 Blessed G3107 art thou, G1488 Simon G4613 Barjona: G920 for G3754 flesh G4561 and G2532 blood G129 hath G601 not G3756 revealed G601 it unto thee, G4671 but G235 my G3450 Father G3962 which G3588 is in G1722 heaven. G3772 And G1161 I say G3004 also G2504 unto thee, G4671 That G3754 thou G4771 art G1488 Peter, G4074 and G2532 upon G1909 this G5026 rock G4073 I will build G3618 my G3450 church; G1577 and G2532 the gates G4439 of hell G86 shall G2729 not G3756 prevail against G2729 it. G846 And G2532 I will give G1325 unto thee G4671 the keys G2807 of the kingdom G932 of heaven: G3772 and G2532 whatsoever G3739 G1437 thou shalt bind G1210 on G1909 earth G1093 shall be G2071 bound G1210 in G1722 heaven: G3772 and G2532 whatsoever G3739 G1437 thou shalt loose G3089 on G1909 earth G1093 shall be G2071 loosed G3089 in G1722 heaven. G3772 Then G5119 charged he G1291 his G846 disciples G3101 that G2443 they should tell G2036 no man G3367 that G3754 he G846 was G2076 Jesus G2424 the Christ. G5547

Commentary on Mark 8 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 8
In this chapter, we have,
Mar 8:1-9
We had the story of a miracle very like this before, in this gospel (ch. 6:35), and of this same miracle (Mt. 15:32), and here is little or no addition or alternation as to the circumstances. Yet observe,
Mar 8:10-21
Still Christ is upon motion; now he visits the parts of Dalmanutha, that no corner of the land of Israel might say that they had not had his presence with them. He came thither by ship (v. 10); but, meeting with occasions of dispute there, and not with opportunities of doing good, he entered into the ship again (v. 13), and came back. In these verses, we are told,
Mar 8:22-26
This cure is related only by this evangelist, and there is something singular in the circumstances.
Mar 8:27-38
We have read a great deal of the doctrine Christ preached, and the miracles he wrought, which were many, and strange, and well-attested, of various kinds, and wrought in several places, to the astonishment of the multitudes that were eye-witnesses of them. It is now time for us to pause a little, and to consider what these things mean; the wondrous works which Christ then forbade the publishing of, being recorded in these sacred writings, are thereby published to all the world, to us, to all ages; now what shall we think of them? Is the record of those things designed only for an amusement, or to furnish us with matter for discourse? No, certainly these things are written, that we may believe that Jesus is the Christ the Son of God (Jn. 20:31); and this discourse which Christ had with his disciples, will assist us in making the necessary reflections upon the miracles of Christ, and a right use of them. Three things we are here taught to infer from the miracles Christ wrought.
