16 Length H753 of days H3117 is in her right hand; H3225 and in her left hand H8040 riches H6239 and honour. H3519
Forsake H5800 her not, and she shall preserve H8104 thee: love H157 her, and she shall keep H5341 thee. Wisdom H2451 is the principal thing; H7225 therefore get H7069 wisdom: H2451 and with all thy getting H7075 get understanding. H998 Exalt H5549 her, and she shall promote H7311 thee: she shall bring thee to honour, H3513 when thou dost embrace H2263 her. She shall give H5414 to thine head H7218 an ornament H3880 of grace: H2580 a crown H5850 of glory H8597 shall she deliver H4042 to thee. Hear, H8085 O my son, H1121 and receive H3947 my sayings; H561 and the years H8141 of thy life H2416 shall be many. H7235
Therefore G5620 let G2744 no man G3367 glory G2744 in G1722 men. G444 For G1063 all things G3956 are G2076 yours; G5216 Whether G1535 Paul, G3972 or G1535 Apollos, G625 or G1535 Cephas, G2786 or G1535 the world, G2889 or G1535 life, G2222 or G1535 death, G2288 or G1535 things present, G1764 or G1535 things to come; G3195 all G3956 are G2076 yours; G5216 And G1161 ye G5210 are Christ's; G5547 and G1161 Christ G5547 is God's. G2316
Riches H6239 and honour H3519 are with me; yea, durable H6276 riches H1952 and righteousness. H6666 My fruit H6529 is better H2896 than gold, H2742 yea, than fine gold; H6337 and my revenue H8393 than choice H977 silver. H3701 I lead H1980 in the way H734 of righteousness, H6666 in the midst H8432 of the paths H5410 of judgment: H4941 That I may cause those that love H157 me to inherit H5157 substance; H3426 and I will fill H4390 their treasures. Commentary on Proverbs 3 Commentary Critical and Explanatory on the Whole Bible
CHAPTER 3
Pr 3:1-35. The study of truth commended. God must be feared, honored, and trusted, and filial submission, under chastisement, exhibited. The excellence of wisdom urged and illustrated by its place in the divine counsels. Piety enforced by a contrast of the destiny of the righteous and the wicked.
1. law [and] commandments—all divine instructions (see on Ps 119:1 and Ps 119:4).
let thine heart keep—or sincerely observe (Pr 4:13; 5:2).
2. length … life—often promised as blessings (Ps 21:4; 91:16).
peace—includes prosperity (Ps 125:5).
add—abound to thee.
3. mercy and truth—God's faithfulness to His promises is often expressed by these terms (Ps 25:10; 57:3). As attributes of men, they express integrity in a wide sense (Pr 16:6; 20:28).
bind … write … heart—outwardly adorn and inwardly govern motives.
4. favour—grace, amiability (Pr 22:11; Ps 45:2); united with this,
a good understanding—(Compare Margin), a discrimination, which secures success.

10. presses—or wine fats (Joe 2:24; 3:13).
11, 12. The true intent of afflictions considered; they do not contradict the assertion of the blessed state of the pious (Job 5:17; Heb 12:5, 6).
12. he delighteth—or receiveth as denoting reconciliation regarding the offense which produced chastisement.
13. findeth—literally, "reaches," or "obtains by seeking."
getteth—literally, "draws out," as metals by digging.
14, 15. The figure of Pr 3:13 carried out.
it—that is, wisdom.
merchandise of silver—acquisition by trading.
fine gold—dug gold, solid as a nugget.

18. Wisdom allegorized as
a tree of life—(Ge 2:9; 3:22) whose fruit preserves life, gives all that makes living a blessing.
19, 20. The place of wisdom in the economy of creation and providence commends it to men, who, in proportion to their finite powers, may possess this invaluable attribute, and are thus encouraged by the divine example of its use to seek its possession.
21. sound wisdom—(compare Pr 2:7).

34. The retribution of sinners, as in Ps 18:26.
