8 Harden H7185 not your heart, H3824 as in the provocation, H4808 and as in the day H3117 of temptation H4531 in the wilderness: H4057
And he called H7121 the name H8034 of the place H4725 Massah, H4532 and Meribah, H4809 because of the chiding H7379 of the children H1121 of Israel, H3478 and because they tempted H5254 the LORD, H3068 saying, H559 Is H3426 the LORD H3068 among H7130 us, or not?
Wherefore then do ye harden H3513 your hearts, H3824 as the Egyptians H4714 and Pharaoh H6547 hardened H3513 their hearts? H3820 when he had wrought wonderfully H5953 among them, did they not let the people go, H7971 and they departed? H3212
I will G1014 therefore G1161 put G5279 you G5209 in remembrance, G5279 though ye G5209 once G530 knew G1492 this, G5124 how that G3754 the Lord, G2962 having saved G4982 the people G2992 out of G1537 the land G1093 of Egypt, G125 afterward G1208 destroyed G622 them that believed G4100 not. G3361
See G991 that ye refuse G3868 not G3361 him that speaketh. G2980 For G1063 if G1487 they G1565 escaped G5343 not G3756 who refused him G3868 that spake G5537 on G1909 earth, G1093 much G4183 more G3123 shall not we G2249 escape, if we turn away from him G654 that speaketh from G575 heaven: G3772
While G1722 it is said, G3004 To day G4594 if G1437 ye will hear G191 his G846 voice, G5456 harden G4645 not G3361 your G5216 hearts, G2588 as G5613 in G1722 the provocation. G3894 For G1063 some, G5100 when they had heard, G191 did provoke: G3893 howbeit G235 not G3756 all G3956 that came G1831 out of G1537 Egypt G125 by G1223 Moses. G3475 But G1161 with whom G5101 was he grieved G4360 forty G5062 years? G2094 was it not G3780 with them that had sinned, G264 whose G3739 carcases G2966 fell G4098 in G1722 the wilderness? G2048 And G1161 to whom G5101 sware he G3660 that they should G1525 not G3361 enter G1525 into G1519 his G846 rest, G2663 but G1508 to them that believed not? G544 So G2532 we see G991 that G3754 they could G1410 not G3756 enter in G1525 because G1223 of unbelief. G570
Harden G4645 not G3361 your G5216 hearts, G2588 as G5613 in G1722 the provocation, G3894 in G2596 the day G2250 of temptation G3986 in G1722 the wilderness: G2048 When G3757 your G5216 fathers G3962 tempted G3985 me, G3165 proved G1381 me, G3165 and G2532 saw G1492 my G3450 works G2041 forty G5062 years. G2094
And the LORD H3068 heard H8085 the voice H6963 of your words, H1697 and was wroth, H7107 and sware, H7650 saying, H559 Surely there shall not one H376 of these men H582 of this evil H7451 generation H1755 see H7200 that good H2896 land, H776 which I sware H7650 to give H5414 unto your fathers, H1
How long shall I bear with this evil H7451 congregation, H5712 which murmur H3885 against me? I have heard H8085 the murmurings H8519 of the children H1121 of Israel, H3478 which they murmur H3885 against me.
And the LORD H3068 said H559 unto Moses, H4872 How long will this people H5971 provoke H5006 me? and how long will it be ere H3808 they believe H539 me, for all the signs H226 which I have shewed H6213 among H7130 them?
But when Pharaoh H6547 saw H7200 that there was respite, H7309 he hardened H3513 his heart, H3820 and hearkened H8085 not unto them; as the LORD H3068 had said. H1696
But G1161 when G5613 divers G5100 were hardened, G4645 and G2532 believed not, G544 but spake evil G2551 of that way G3598 before G1799 the multitude, G4128 he departed G868 from G575 them, G846 and separated G873 the disciples, G3101 disputing G1256 daily G2596 G2250 in G1722 the school G4981 of one G5100 Tyrannus. PSALM 95
Ps 95:1-11. David (Heb 4:7) exhorts men to praise God for His greatness, and warns them, in God's words, against neglecting His service.
1. The terms used to express the highest kind of joy.
rock—a firm basis, giving certainty of salvation (Ps 62:7).
2. come … presence—literally, "approach," or, meet Him (Ps 17:13).
3. above … gods—esteemed such by men, though really nothing (Jer 5:7; 10:10-15).
4, 5. The terms used describe the world in its whole extent, subject to God.
6. come—or, "enter," with solemn forms, as well as hearts.
7. This relation illustrates our entire dependence (compare Ps 23:3; 74:1). The last clause is united by Paul (Heb 3:7) to the following (compare Ps 81:8),
8-11. warning against neglect; and this is sustained by citing the melancholy fate of their rebellious ancestors, whose provoking insolence is described by quoting the language of God's complaint (Nu 14:11) of their conduct at Meribah and Massah, names given (Ex 17:7) to commemorate their strife and contention with Him (Ps 78:18, 41).
10. err in their heart—Their wanderings in the desert were but types of their innate ignorance and perverseness.
that they should not—literally, "if they," &c., part of the form of swearing (compare Nu 14:30; Ps 89:35).
