9 That G3754 if G1437 thou shalt confess G3670 with G1722 thy G4675 mouth G4750 the Lord G2962 Jesus, G2424 and G2532 shalt believe G4100 in G1722 thine G4675 heart G2588 that G3754 God G2316 hath raised G1453 him G846 from G1537 the dead, G3498 thou shalt be saved. G4982
Hereby G1722 G3739 G5129 know ye G1097 the Spirit G4151 of God: G2316 Every G3956 spirit G4151 that confesseth G3670 that Jesus G2424 Christ G5547 is come G2064 in G1722 the flesh G4561 is G2076 of G1537 God: G2316 And G2532 every G3956 spirit G4151 that G3739 confesseth G3670 not G3361 that Jesus G2424 Christ G5547 is come G2064 in G1722 the flesh G4561 is G2076 not G3756 of G1537 God: G2316 and G2532 this G5124 is G2076 that spirit of antichrist, G500 whereof G3739 ye have heard G191 that G3754 it should come; G2064 and even G2532 now G3568 already G2235 is it G2076 in G1722 the world. G2889
And G1161 if G1487 Christ G5547 be G1453 not G3756 risen, G1453 then G686 is our G2257 preaching G2782 vain, G2756 and G2532 your G5216 faith G4102 is G1161 also G2532 vain. G2756 Yea, G1161 and G2532 we are found G2147 false witnesses G5575 of God; G2316 because G3754 we have testified G3140 of G2596 God G2316 that G3754 he raised up G1453 Christ: G5547 whom G3739 he raised G1453 not G3756 up, G1453 if G1512 so be G686 that the dead G3498 rise G1453 not. G3756 For G1063 if G1487 the dead G3498 rise G1453 not, G3756 then is G1453 not G3761 Christ G5547 raised: G1453 And G1161 if G1487 Christ G5547 be G1453 not G3756 raised, G1453 your G5216 faith G4102 is vain; G3152 ye are G2075 yet G2089 in G1722 your G5216 sins. G266 Then G686 they also G2532 which are fallen asleep G2837 in G1722 Christ G5547 are perished. G622
Nevertheless G3676 G3305 among G1537 the chief rulers G758 also G2532 many G4183 believed G4100 on G1519 him; G846 but G235 because G1223 of the Pharisees G5330 they did G3670 not G3756 confess G3670 him, lest G3363 they should be G1096 put out of the synagogue: G656 For G1063 they loved G25 the praise G1391 of men G444 more G3123 than G2260 the praise G1391 of God. G2316
And G2532 we G2249 believe G4100 and G2532 are sure G1097 that G3754 thou G4771 art G1488 that Christ, G5547 the Son G5207 of the living G2198 God. G2316 Jesus G2424 answered G611 them, G846 Have G1586 not G3756 I G1473 chosen G1586 you G5209 twelve, G1427 and G2532 one G1520 of G1537 you G5216 is G2076 a devil? G1228 G1161 He spake G3004 of Judas G2455 Iscariot G2469 the son of Simon: G4613 for G1063 he G3778 it was that should G3195 betray G3860 him, G846 being G5607 one G1520 of G1537 the twelve. G1427
Whosoever G3956 G3748 therefore G3767 shall confess G3670 G1722 me G1698 before G1715 men, G444 G1722 him G846 will I confess G3670 also G2504 before G1715 my G3450 Father G3962 which G3588 is in G1722 heaven. G3772 But G1161 whosoever G3748 shall G302 deny G720 me G3165 before G1715 men, G444 him G846 will I also G2504 deny G720 before G1715 my G3450 Father G3962 which G3588 is in G1722 heaven. G3772
And G2532 after G3326 eight G3638 days G2250 again G3825 his G846 disciples G3101 were G2258 within, G2080 and G2532 Thomas G2381 with G3326 them: G846 then came G2064 Jesus, G2424 the doors G2374 being shut, G2808 and G2532 stood G2476 in G1519 the midst, G3319 and G2532 said, G2036 Peace G1515 be unto you. G5213 Then G1534 saith he G3004 to Thomas, G2381 Reach G5342 hither G5602 thy G4675 finger, G1147 and G2532 behold G1492 my G3450 hands; G5495 and G2532 reach hither G5342 thy G4675 hand, G5495 and G2532 thrust G906 it into G1519 my G3450 side: G4125 and G2532 be G1096 not G3361 faithless, G571 but G235 believing. G4103 And G2532 Thomas G2381 answered G611 and G2532 said G2036 unto him, G846 My G3450 Lord G2962 and G2532 my G3450 God. G2316 Jesus G2424 saith G3004 unto him, G846 Thomas, G2381 because G3754 thou hast seen G3708 me, G3165 thou hast believed: G4100 blessed G3107 are they that have not G3361 seen, G1492 and G2532 yet have believed. Commentary on Romans 10 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 10
The dissolving of the peculiar church-state of the Jews, and the rejection of that polity by the repealing of their ceremonial law, the vacating of all the institutions of it, the abolishing of their priesthood, the burning of their temple, and the taking away of their place and nation, and in their room the substituting and erecting of a catholic church-state among the Gentile nations, though to us, now that these things have long since been done and completed, they may seem no great matter, yet to those who lived when they were doing, who knew how high the Jews had stood in God's favour, and how deplorable the condition of the Gentile world had been for many ages, it appeared very great and marvellous, and a mystery hard to be understood. The apostle, in this chapter, as in the foregoing and that which follows, is explaining and proving it; but with several very useful digressions, which a little interrupt the thread of his discourse. To two great truths I would reduce this chapter:-
Rom 10:1-11
The scope of the apostle in this part of the chapter is to show the vast difference between the righteousness of the law and the righteousness of faith, and the great pre-eminence of the righteousness of faith above that of the law; that he might induce and persuade the Jews to believe in Christ, aggravate the folly and sin of those that refused, and justify God in the rejection of such refusers.
Rom 10:12-21
The first words express the design of the apostle through these verses, that there is no difference between Jews and Gentiles, but they stand upon the same level in point of acceptance with God. In Jesus Christ there is neither Greek nor Jews, Col. 3:11. God doth not save any nor reject any because they are Jews, nor because they are Greeks, but doth equally accept both upon gospel terms: There is no difference. For the proof of this he urges two arguments:-
