18 then I will establish the throne of your kingdom, according as I covenanted with David your father, saying, There shall not fail you a man to be ruler in Israel.
He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be his father, and he shall be my son: if he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men; but my loving kindness shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before you. Your house and your kingdom shall be made sure for ever before you: your throne shall be established forever.
I will keep my loving kindness for him forevermore. My covenant will stand firm with him. I will also make his seed endure forever, And his throne as the days of heaven. If his children forsake my law, And don't walk in my ordinances; If they break my statutes, And don't keep my commandments; Then I will punish their sin with the rod, And their iniquity with stripes. But I will not completely take my loving kindness from him, Nor allow my faithfulness to fail. I will not break my covenant, Nor alter what my lips have uttered. Once have I sworn by my holiness, I will not lie to David. His seed will endure forever, His throne like the sun before me. It will be established forever like the moon, The faithful witness in the sky." Selah. But you have rejected and spurned. You have been angry with your anointed. You have renounced the covenant of your servant. You have defiled his crown in the dust. You have broken down all his hedges. You have brought his strongholds to ruin.
Thus says Yahweh: If you can break my covenant of the day, and my covenant of the night, so that there shall not be day and night in their season; then may also my covenant be broken with David my servant, that he shall not have a son to reign on his throne; and with the Levites the priests, my ministers.
Thus says Yahweh: If my covenant of day and night fails, if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth; then will I also cast away the seed of Jacob, and of David my servant, so that I will not take of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: for I will cause their captivity to return, and will have mercy on them.

Commentary on 2 Chronicles 7 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 7
In this chapter we have God's answer to Solomon's prayer.
2Ch 7:1-11
Here is,
2Ch 7:12-22
That God accepted Solomon's prayer appeared by the fire from heaven. But a prayer may be accepted and yet not answered in the letter of it; and therefore God appeared to him in the night, as he did once before (ch. 1:7), and after a day of sacrifice too, as then, and gave him a peculiar answer to his prayer. We had the substance of it before, 1 Ki. 9:2-9.
