9 Then said Harbonah, one of the chamberlains who were before the king, Behold also, the gallows fifty cubits high, which Haman has made for Mordecai, who spoke good for the king, stands in the house of Haman. The king said, Hang him thereon.
He has dug a hole, And has fallen into the pit which he made. The trouble he causes shall return to his own head. His violence shall come down on the crown of his own head.
The righteousness of the blameless will direct his way, But the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness. The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them, But the unfaithful will be trapped by evil desires.
The nations have sunk down in the pit that they made; In the net which they hid, their own foot is taken. Yahweh has made himself known. He has executed judgment. The wicked is snared by the work of his own hands. Meditation. Selah.
Terrors overtake him like waters; A tempest steals him away in the night. The east wind carries him away, and he departs; It sweeps him out of his place. For it hurls at him, and does not spare, As he flees away from his hand. Men shall clap their hands at him, And shall hiss him out of his place.
In those days, while Mordecai was sitting in the king's gate, two of the king's chamberlains, Bigthan and Teresh, of those who kept the threshold, were angry, and sought to lay hands on the king Ahasuerus. The thing became known to Mordecai, who shown it to Esther the queen; and Esther told the king [of it] in Mordecai's name. When inquisition was made of the matter, and it was found to be so, they were both hanged on a tree: and it was written in the book of the chronicles before the king.
